What's a good .243 bullet......

What's a good .243 bullet to load for whitetails?
I like what I have used from Hornady but all were smaller (58gr) which is too small for deer.

I've killed about 150 with my .243...About 80 with CoreLokts, but a few years back I started trying others as well...Here's what I found...

Bullets that almost always exit, on lung shots...
100gr Remington CoreLokts
100gr Hornady Custom Interlockts SP
100gr Federal Premium Nosler Partition
100gr Nitrex GrandSlam

Bullets that usually exit,on lung shots,past 60-75 yards....
100gr Federal Premium Sierra GameKings SPBT
85gr Federal Premium Sierra GameKing HPBT
100gr Winchester PowerPoints

I shot 7-8 deer with each, on the average the "softer" group dropped deer quicker, but you didn't always have pass throughs on lung shots...

One surprise to me was the Sierra 85gr HPBT...When I heard of this bullet, I thought it was for groundhogs, the dealer insured me that he knew several hunters using this for deer...The first deer I killed with this bullet, I shot in the shoulder blade, she was about 100 yards away in a soybean field, she dropped...Sighted in 2 1/2 high at 100 yards, my gun is about 2 1/2 - 3 inches low at 300 yards...Fortunately, in my gun the 100 gr CoreLokts are 2 inches high as well...So when I'm hunting cut corn or bean fields and expect shots past 200 yards, I load up with the 85gr HP...If I head to the swamps, I go with the CoreLokt....

They all killed deer, I didn't loose any in 5-6 years of testing, pick one of the harder bullets if you like exit wounds, pick from the softer group if your shots run on the longer side and you aren't concerned with a exit....

I've used Hornady, Sierra, Remington, and Winchester bullets for deer. All were 100 gr but one and that one was an 87gr HP from Hornady. I've yet to recover a bullet from any of them. All have been pass thrus and dead deer. My particular rifle likes 4831(H or IMR) and H414 for the heavyweights.

  I find the barns x works best loaded at slow vel  give the bullet time to do it's work. It will not blow up you get more meat.

Use a 100 gr. bullet.  I don't think anyone makes a bad one.

The 100 grain Nosler Partitions work really well in my .243.

The 95g Hornady SST is a great one.

Nosler Partition.  GUARANTEED performance, penetration, and kills when placed in the right spot.  If you have a strange angle or are forced to run a deer lengthwise for whatever reason, this bullet WILL do it, I've done it out of the .243 with it in the past.

Sierra 85 grain BTHP....very accurate in my rifles when loaded properly.
