Speer gold dot bullets
« on: October 20, 2007, 01:26:20 PM »
Has anyone here used the speer gold dot bullets?  I currently use the precision rifle dead centers because of their great expansion.  But, on another ML forum I noticed someone has shot a 300 grain speer gold dot on top of 80 grains of goex and it expanded so well that I almost fell outta my chair when i saw it.  Let me know if you've tried these and what you thought about them.  Thanks in advance, Greg

Two pictures:

1.  Target of 300 grain Gold Dots shot at 100 yards from my Lyman Mustang.

2.  Bullets recovered from damp sandy loam behind the target.

First time poster and new to muzzle loading in general....

Just today I tried 240gr, 44 caliber (.429) Gold dots inside green Harvester sabots, pushed by two 777 50 grain pellets out of my T/C 209x50 Encore.  My range is limited to 62 yards.  However with open sights that's almost at the end of my comfort zone.   They patterned very well (for me) for my first time out.   3 shot, 1 inch group about 1.5" high, right over the top of the bull.  Where I'll be hunting (whitetail) this year, 100 yard shots and less are the norm...

Any tips, advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated....   :)
