Who has a short barrel 45/70

Who has a short barrel 45/70 say in the 16-20" range? what kind of vel. are you getting?

Out of my  Marlin 18-1/2" 1895 stainless guide gun I get 2350fps...This is for a 300 grain Nosler Partition...

What load you using on that one.  Since Kalifornia went to no-lead for next year I might have to work up a load with the Barnes TSX.

I used H4198...Remington nickel cases/rem 9-1/2 primers and a very heavy crimp with a Lee factory crimp die...and a 300 grain Partition with those...but I have shot the 458 triple shocks out of my Elite

I used the same load but backed off a couple grains for the TSX bullets...both the 250 and 300 grainer out of my Optima Elite...I could have raised it up...but elected not too..for now

This is the 200 yard groups... The 250's are on the left...the 300's are on the right..

Is that no lead in CACA fornia for just hunting or no lead for any shooting?

I've got one in progress.  Handi with an 18 inch barrel.  It is just for the small box blind/shooting houses on the Alabama lease.  I plan on using the 300 gr. Hornady HP.  It is about the size of a Red Ryder BB gun.  I'll have 4X glass on it, nothing fancy, but it should work for it's intended purpose.  Short and easy to handle in close quarters, enough oomph, with glass for my old eyeballs.  Plan to mount the glass today, shoot wed to zero.  Updates will follow.
