Chamber inserts?

Anyone know who sells the chamber conversion inserts?

I'm looking for a 7.62 x 39 insert that would fit my .303 British Enfield, if they even make such a thing.

Any help with a link, or someone with experience with one would be appreciated!

Jimbo:  The fella's name is Ace Dube and he is found at MCA Sports (add the www and .com and that gets you there).  I know he can provide you with a 7.62x39 adapter for the 303 British and if you reload handgun cartridges he can provide adapters for pistol/revolver cartridges with the same bore size as the 303 - that way you can have fun, and then lots more fun.  HTH.  Mikey..

This is a stupid question but do you have to mod your magazine to use it with this guy's adapter? 7.62x39/.303 Brit.

I've done some looking and found a conversion where they have a kit that contains a new barrel and trigger guard, and bolt face to convert it using a single stack AK magazine, which I believe is from a Romanian AK.

It's a 100% mod that isn't easily reverseable.

It also takes some gunsmithing and head space calibrating.

The insert isn't a permanent mod, and can be removed and you can use the .303 just like before, but using the insert you would be using it as a single shot unless you did some modification of the mag, and mag area, as mentioned above.

I'm wondering if this will work with the standard bolt face that is original with the .303 since the cartridge is a rimmed one, and the 7.62 X 39 isn't.

On the Isaphore (India Enfield rifle) the bolt is for the non-rimmed 7.62 X 51 which I can see it would work, although not great, but it would extract the shell.

Just wondering if this is a doable venture and if anyone has done this with the British .303.

BTW the .303 bore is .311, as is the 7.62 X 39, so that is in it's favor.

jack:  no modifications to anything.  Just insert your live cartridge into the chamber insert and load it into your chamber like normal.  The insert looks like an empty shell casing with holes a both ends and the insert is chambered for the round you wish to fire.  I do not permanently or semi-permanently fix my inserts into the rifle chamber - I extract them every time.  If I had a rifle I wanted to permanetly convert that would be one thing but the chamber inserts are a ball. 

I have chamber inserts in 7.62x25, 30 Luger and 32 acp for my 06.  The 303 Brit could probably use the 7.62x39, maybe the 32-20 or even the 32 mag (if using .311 or .312 bullets).  Heck, you could probably even go for a 30 Luger insert and load heavy cast slugs in the right diameter and get yourself a 303 Whisper.  Now that's havin' fun.   

Jimbo:  The insert is correct for the rifle - that is, the insert for a 303 British chambering would be rimmed and would function normally.  The live cartridge sits/fits completely into the insert - the extractor graps the rim of the insert, not the cartridge.   Mikey.

Thanks Mikey, that is good news and exactly what I would want.

I thought you had to epoxy the insert into the chamber, so what you explained makes a whole lot of sense, and is exactly what I wanted in order to fire off some of my 7.62 X 39 and still not have to permanently effect my rifle.

I like the idea of several other calibers as well.

The adapter I had was for two semi-rimmed cartridges and had to be loctited in. I can see not doing that with a rimmed cartridge and just ejecting the insert each time. And no, a 7.62 x39 does not easily feed from a 2A mag. Too short of a round.

There are chamber inserts you can locktite permanently or semi-permanently into place and basically change the caliber of the rifle.  I prefer to eject mine at every shot. 

I was playing, so to speak, with 3 differently chambered inserts in my old 06 and wanted to see which caliber shot best right out of the box.  I did the same with 2 differently chambered inserts for my 308 years ago. 

These inserts are made from steel and once fired in one chamber may not chamber in another firearm.  In fact, I need to contact MCA Sports and get another insert for a 7.62x25mm for a 308 Contender.  The insert I have for my Rem 788/308 won't fit the Contender.  Mikey.

I have treid his 7.65 (30) Luger and 7.62 (30) Mauser inserts in a Rem 788 308 and had more fun loading heavy slugs, 180s into the 30 Luger over 4-5 gns of Unique.  But, my 788 didn't shoot fer squat with any load, rifle or pistol, which is why I got rid of it.

In the 06 I have tried his 32 acp, 30 Luger and 30 Mauser.  The 32 acp seems to shoot most accurately with the 30 Luger next and the 30 Mauser last.  But, I was using a real mix of 30 Mauser stuff and just having fun tossing them out there, so it really wasn't much of a test.  I also know that once you fire one of his inserts it becomes 'sized' to your chamber and should be a bit more accurate.  My 06 is an older M70.  I haven't hand loaded either the 30 Luger or the 30 Mauser for those inserts yet, but someday when I feel like playing around. 

You can probably duplicate the 30 and 7.62 Whisper cartridge ballistics with those inserts.  The Whisper people said the 30 Luger likes 180 gn slugs and the 30 Mauser likes 200 gn slugs, so there are lots of possibilities. 

You just have to play around with these things...........and have fund oing it.  Mikey.

I would hope that he would.  The owner's name is Ace Dube, or at least that's what he goes by.  I haven't used him in a couple of years but he had always been a little slow to respond.  I'm hoping he is still in business.

There was someone else who advertized in the Shotgun News as making chamber inserts and I will continue to look for that add.

As to the shotgun inserts - I have used his 410 insert in a 12 ga and a 20 ga and they seemed to work alright - good patterns and accuracy.  Mikey.

I've emailed him at least three times and have yet to receive a reply, and have called at least that many times and get an answering machine that explains he is a little hard to get a hold of because he has three jobs.

For what I remember his adapter business was out of his house. Now where the adapter business falls in place in the 3 jobs is unknown to me. I ended up buying mine through a company that carried his products, but quit carrying them because he couldn't keep up with orders. They had a few left over. He did answer my emails eventually about some questions I had about the adapter and a 45/70 adapter for SS shotguns.

I have adapter for 303 shoots 32 acp and was made by winchester dated 1909.
also 30/40 and Marble in 30/06 and 8mm.the o6 fits the 32acp in front the rest inback.very quite.

I've used the mc ace adapters in 30-30 to .32acp and 30-30 to .32 s&w..... both great products.  Quiet, lots of fun, worked well, although I had to sand the rim dia. down on one adapter so it would fit in my H and R topper (easy). 
Accuracy ok at 25 yards, minute of bunny.   You don't glue these in, although I think he has a 30.06 to .308 that does. (can be removed).
I emailed him about the .303 Brit to 7.62 x 39 adapter. I'd buy one. That'd be cool in my #4 rifle. I wouldn't buy one that has to be glued in (too much trouble), I'm sure this one wouldn't.
Lets see if I get a response.
