I did not vote, but would it not be like the .22 LR and the .22 Short.  Shoot-able in the same chamber.  The Mach II is a .22LR case necked down to .17, so I would think the .17 Short would be the .22 Short case necked down.  Therefore it would shoot from .17 Mach II single shot, or bolt guns.

So you would not purchase a gun just for it, like nobody buys a gun just for .22 shorts.  At least I don't know anybody that has.

The 17M2 is actually a necked down .22 Stinger case, it's .10" longer than a .22 Lr. The 17Lr became the 17M2, there's also a 17 Aguila. ;)

 I really like my Sportsters in .17 HMR and .17 Mach2, they are very accurate and a lot of fun. I have shot .17 Aquilas out of my Mach2 but would not shoot the proposed .17 Short out of my .17 HMR.  voted to consider a purchase but think perhaps the poll has been set up with some sort of error because I have voted but cannot see any results of the voting....<><....:)

Tim:  I did not know that CCI .22 Stingers were not the same length as LRs.  I've been shooting them for years with my Remington Pump .22.  It's chambered for .22 S, L, LR, and have had no problems.

But the question remains. Can't the .17 short be shot through the Mach II guns?  Same diameter case and bullet, just a shorter case.

I believe it can and it has been done but I would not expect great accuracy results from doing so. So far the testing with these 17 Shorts shooting low velocity subsonic has been difficult as I understand it due to the bullet not opening up at the lower velocity.

while this may not be something for everyone i can see it as a real neat round in this ever growing world where neighbors are getting closer all the time.

I would not hold my breath in seeing this a factory round but was more interested in what you all thought.

I don't see how a .17 short could be used in a .17 HM2 chamber since the tip of the bullet would barely be past the shoulder of the HM2 chamber, there is nothing to guide the bullet into the bore. I'm sure it would fire but no telling where the bullet would go and what damage it might do to the rifle when the short case blows out straight. It is not at all like firing .22 shorts from a longrifle chamber where bullets and chamber are all straight and the same diameter. It would be more akin to firing a .221 fireball cartridge from a .223 rifle. I would be afeerd, very afeerd!!   ::)
  I didn't get on in time to vote but I would have voted "dumb idea". We already have a confusing array of cartridges. There certainly would be people trying to fire it from .17 HM2 and even .17 HMR chambers and at best I don't see where it could do anything that is not already being done better by the .22 short and that is not a very popular cartridge even though it can be fired from the common longrifle chamber.

I am not sure how serious everyone who did vote was I was surprised to see how the outcome ended up. I figured that I would be maybe the only one to purchase one????

Thought I would share with you why I did a pole in the first place….

It started out as an idea listening to some complain about why a 17 HM2 and where does it fit in??? Just could not understand that thinking so that is when I asked the question just where does the 22 short fit in and why have we not heard any talk about the 17 Short….

Long story short a real nice feller who has been messing with this stuff probably longer than I have lived chambered a riffle in this round and although he did not get his intended results he is working with it… Pretty neat the tallent some people have who are the doers and then there is me (a wanna-be)????

Thanks for taking the time to vote and question things such as shooting it out of a 17 HM2 chamber (something I had not really considered)

Just to let you know I voted to consider a purchase but since have changed my mind and would have voted to purchase one if the performance was good. Also I would have like to have seen the .17 Aquila pictured in the line-up of .17 rimfire (and the .14) shells. I shoot .17 Aqulia's out of my .17 Mach2 but would not attempt to shoot them out of my .17 HMR. Thanks....<><....:)

If you can do it feel free to change my vote from "consider" to "purchase"....

So, is it ok to shoot .22 stingers in a regular .22 long rifle chamber?  I also never knew there was a difference.  I have never shot them either, but was thinking about it to add some zip to my .22.
