gunsmith wanted for B78 repair
« on: October 23, 2007, 08:06:19 PM »
Anyone know of any gunsmiths that will work on a Browning B78 HiWall?  I need an extractor replaced with a new one.  I think the 1885 Browning HiWall as currently manufactured will work.

Have you checked with Browning, both for the part & a referral ?

I've dis-assembled & worked on my own B-78, but I have a shop manual I bought years ago.

Getting the proper part(s) is the hard part, as I'm unsure that M1885 parts are an exact swap out - since I've never had to disassemble any of my M1885's & get a chance to look/compare.

Ranger, any chance I could get you to copy the shop manual and send it to me?  I'd be willing to pay for all costs and some of your time.  It has been extremely difficult finding anything regarding the B78 online.

deltecs - You should have mail soon.  I just sent 4 separate emails, with a few pages of the FSM in each.

On Browning's web-site there's a parts list for the 1885; although Browning doesn't still make the 1885, this is a 2005 document (it's under the area for parts for current guns, not the one for obsolete).  Anyway, that list notes parts that are interchangeable between the 1885 and B-78. It seems the extractor is NOT one of those parts (at least according to the list).
By the way, thanks Ranger for the manual.  I have a B-78 and try to gather whatever info I can on them (which, as you may know, is pretty rare).  You've provided a great service to us B-78 owners. Thanks again.
