Not so happy with my Tikka purchase...
« on: October 25, 2007, 09:46:49 PM »
So I save up and decided that I'm going to buy a new rifle. I determine that I "need" a Tikka T3 in stainless laminate in a 25-06. I have a friend that works at the local Sportsman's Warehouse, so I order the rifle through him.  It's not in stock so he orders it from their warehouse. Three or four days later it comes in. I go in to pick it up and take it out of the box.  I notice that the checkering is really rough. It looked like it was cut with a really dull bit, or possibly double cut. The lines are really fuzzy. My friend looks at the rifle and feels the same way, he hasn't seen one come through that was cut that poorly before. My friend says no problem. He takes the rifle and sends it back to Beretta with a work request to have the rifle re-stocked.

Today had been about six weeks, and my friend called a couple days ago to let me know the rifle came back. I went in today and we went to the back room and located the rifle. I took it out of the box to check it. Whala..... absolutely nothing has changed. If possible it looks like they may have went over it with a brush and actually knocked down some of the raised checkering making it worse. I was very disappointed. Consequently after saying a few choice words my friend orders me a NEW rifle and says that he will have it out with Beretta over this defective one. So cudos to my friend and Sportsman's Warehouse for attempting to make this purchase right.  But what kind of customer service is that from Beretta? Why send something back that is clearly not fixed? I'm almost regretting the purchase now...... >:(

Has anyone else had customer service issues from the factory?

Hang on in there, you will love the rifle when all is sorted. I bought a 308 lite, synthetic stock last Nov. Faulty stock and sent the rifle back to Beretta.... got it back 6 months later. I love the Tikka rifles but Beretta are a total shower of #@$%. The rifle shoots great now, no regrets at all. I also have a 223 Varminter which has been great from day 1. I would have bought the Varminter in 204 but Beretta in their wisdom decided not to import it and I got a Savage 12 VLP.

Beretta is becoming notorious for their extremely poor customer service.  They truly have great guns but in the chance you get a bad one it really is hell to get it corrected.  They need to get their butt's in gear and stop looking all the time at sales and remember good service is just as important.

When people have bad experiences with a product they let people know about it so they won't fall victim to the same issues.  Hopefully, they will repent of their ways and get it together so people can enjoy their firearms for generations to come.

How does it shoot?
An accurate rifle is rarely ugly!

Couldn't tell ya. I'm not going to walk out of the store with a discount gun that I paid full price for.

I have never seen a Tikka that was sub-par.  But obviously it happens.  My buddy just got a Tikka in stainless/synthetic and it is cosmetically fine and shoots great.  However I have heard that Beretta is less than stellar in their customer service.  Sorry you are one to experience it.

I own a few Beretta products(no problems here)---but its seems like they are becoming a victim of their own success and growing too big too fast by gobbling up all these other companies.

I have 3 SAko's and 1 Tikka and IMHO it was a sad day when Beretta bought Sako.

I guess I'll throw another "hate berretta" log on teh fire.  I had  laminated stainless tikka t3 in 338 Win mag.  It was very accurate but kicked harder than any rifle I had ever shot before.  THe stock didn't fit me very well.  I had a muzzle break put on it and then it wasn't so bad.  Until the stock cracked from that joke of a recoil lug all the way back to the wrist behind the action.   Called beretta, and what do they say.   "so sorry, but since it has been customized it is no longer covered by any warrantee."   Since I had a muzzle break on it they didn't do a thing.   I fixed it as best I could with epoxy and sold it for a big loss.   After seeing what a pathetic excuse for a recoil lug these rifles have I won't ever have another one.   THey might be ok in smaller calibers but not anything with kick.

Just last week while I was at the range a guy walked up with another T3 laminate in 338 win mag.  We got to talking and he said his rifle had stoped shooting good.   When I mentioined that mine had cracked the stock we took a look, sure enough his was cracked in the same place and it had caused the rear action screw to go loose letting the action rattle around even more in the stock.   It looked to be that the trigger guard was the only thing keeping it still in the stock.

I'd say the tikka has pretty accurate barrels but some other very big design flaws. especially in a lightweight large caliber rifle.

Sounds more like a problem with the laminated stocks to me. :o
