Moon has a great Idea.  Get an encore 12ga barrel cut it to 12in. and use it on an encore rifle frame.  If you are going to break the law you might as well go all the way.  I believe hunting dove is regulated by the Feds.  I, also, seem to remember that a shoulder fired shotgun was required for the hunting of dove.  That is not to say that you can not kill a dove with a sawed-off shotgun in pistol form.  I am sure it has been done before.  BUT, I sure would not want to caught doing it.

Sounds like fun..more so if its legal..hate it when I have to keep checking over my shoulder!!  I would ask local Fish and Game or maybe the feds since they are covered as migatory birds.  I have used my 14" to take crows on the wing, great sport.  Much like a shotgun I think the longer barrel would be an advantage.  I usually use 7 1/2's on the crows ( they seem to pattern the best),but the birds need to be within 25 yards.  On the doves I prefer my son's 28 gauge BPS ( or my Ruger Red Label 20) if he is using his 28.

Mine is a Super 16 barrel.  I think it points just fine.  Fun to shoot skeet with.  Used to have a 10" and prefer the longer barrel myself.

Been there done that with clays. I thought I would have to miss dove season opener two years ago because of shoulder surgery so I started with an old 44/410 external choke SN9XXX that I got from my brother-in-law's estate. By the time I was cleared to use my 28ga Red Label I was getting my 12 bird (clays) limit with only three boxes of shells.  :)    Sure was fun.   BTY mine is a 10 inch barrel. I used it with 7 1/2s' last season the kill 10 rabbits around the horse pasture and out of the garden. :-)
Love those .41s'

To all concerned about the legality of use. I checked with the Fla. game comm. here in the NW region and they gave me the go ahead for ducks(migratory), so take it from there. Should be great fun if you can hold out for a 20-25 yd. shot with 7-1/2 shot.  Pat
