String questions

I have the phoenix and have shot it about 50 or 60 shots.The serving is starting to separate some .I keep pushing it back together.Is this  normal or am I doing something wrong.How many shots should you get out of a string.Also the string has not stretched according to the tiller marks on the xbow.It is still above the upper mark.

Each string has it's own "life span", and yours needs to be re-served.  Pushing it together only makes it move more each time you use it.  Re-serving isn't that hard, but you need a bow press in order to get the string away from the barrel of the crossbow.

How many twists are in your string?  A tight twist makes for a longer lasting serving.

This was a factory string? Endless loop or Flemish? Dacron or Fast Flyte? Usually servings last 150/200 shots. Suggest you reserve or have it reserved using Halo mat. .026 pulled very tight.Great serving. Fella on Excal site Boo makes great strings yer choice reasonable. He makes mine , have been getting at least 300/400 shots per serving. Sometimes it takes couple hundred shots fer string to stretch out and longer. The cocking clip is whats pushing on serving, you must have gotten a loose served string.

I would Call Dan Miller he is the Excal rep for the States and tell him you have only shot it 50 times and the serving is coming loose. Chances are he will send you a new string or repair yours.  Good guy give him a call I posted his contact info at the top of the forum.

Thanks for the info.I got a string from Dan for a spare .I will switch them out  and see how this one does.Anyone one know how to get in contact with Boo.I am not able to post on excal forum yet.

Flemishstrings@gmail.com   email addy for Boo strings.  He has gotten some great results w/ served on cat whiskers also for those fighting the noise.  I ran several tests on some of his strings for him w/ chrony and was very impressed.

As an interested bystander hoping to learn more about crossbows, I sure am surprised
to read that polyester is being used for the strings instead of many of the stronger
fibers like the cheap nylons.  Anyone know why the stronger materials used in
stronger ropes are not used in crossbow strings ?

 Nylon is bad about stretching. Lots of the newer string materials are stronger and very little stretch and most likely cheaper to make.
