STG Ejection Problem
« on: June 16, 2003, 08:19:43 PM »
I have one of these FAL's built with STG 58 parts on an Imbel receiver. The rifle works great, is accurate and ejects cases with a vengence. You couldn't ask for more - unless you're the shooter on the bench next to me while I'm shooting. The problem is that the brass is flung 90 degrees to the axis of the receiver! I have to shoot with a small towel draped on the receiver over the ejection port to tame the ejection characteristics of this gun. I have tried adjusting the dial that regulates the amount of gas impinged diring the firing cycle- still throws those pesky cases at 90 degrees.  I'm guessing that there is some dimensional discrepancy with the ejector block but it looks pretty similar to other rifles I've examined. Anybody have any suggestions on what might be causing this problem ?
Thanks, Heath

I don't really think there is a problem with the weapon,
most FALs toss their brass with a great deal of force!
and sometimes at strange angles. They were designed
for combat with little thought given to the person to the right of the
shooter.

If you really think there is a problem, let a smith check it out.

Saw a guy at the range earlier this week, shooting an FAL and a CETME.  He had a brass catchers on the rifles.  It was a net bag attached with a velcro strap .  He left the zipper bottom open so when he fired the brass dropped out the bottom onto the bench.
