Your best sweetheart (rifle)?
« on: October 29, 2007, 05:19:55 AM »
What's your favorite centerfire rifle. The one that you go to most often?

Mine is a Remington 700 Custom Shop 375 H&H magnum Safari rifle with synthetic stock and Leupold 1.5-5x scope. I just like that gun. It carries nice, can be used for anything I want to hunt, and it works well. I never expected this to become the favorite.

T3 Tikka, 6.5x55 wood and blued.  I bought this gun to hunt smaller deer in the Bllack Hills of S.D.  It is the most accurate firearm I have.  It has much more power to dispatch game than I ever thought and doesn't kick very much at all.  I feel very confident to 300 plus yards. She is a beauty and lays em down no matter what size deer they are.  Bought as a smaller game rifle but ended up with my main stay.  This is one under rated weapon.  Also great for a teen ager or girlfriend or wife.  Got what I really wanted but didn't know it at the time.  I thought this gun was very accurate with regular ammo until I tried a Hornady SST, plastic tip.  The bar has been raised!  What a special caliber and firearm!

;D Well that's easy it's not one but 2. The first is a Custom 98 in 6.5x55 toped with a Mueller 3-10x44 that will shoot 3/4 inch groups regardless what i feed it and 2nd is my Custom 98 topped with a Pentax Gameseeker 4-12x40 with a 2 1/2 pound trigger. 26 inch heavy barrel that put 3 shots into 3/4 of an inch at 200 yards. it is the mist accurate rifle I have ever shot. I love the 98 action.   Jess

Sweetheart (daughter) and rife. 6.5 x 55 encore.  Her buck was 150 yds. and mine was 385. It has a 3x9 Leup. tactical scope. We had it zeroed at 250 yards.  It shoots everything from 90 to 140 grains well. I took a 8 pt buck and whitetail doe with it on the same day last year.  We use 120 gr for the goats and 140 for deer in the woods.

Have two also, custom Mauser 98's in 30-06 and .35 Whelen.  Wish they were stainless with laminated stocks for weather protection.

Two for me also!

My baby is a Sako Finlight in 270 that will put 5 shots in one hole at 100 yards but the gun I always go to is a Tikka T3 lite in 30-06.
My Tikka is a "working mans" rifle and it just calls me. I have a safe full of rifles by every manufacture out there but the Tikka is my daily worker.

My 300 has a Leupold 3X9 and my lott has a Burris 1 3/4 X 5 safari scope.

I have a safe full of rifles but these two are my favorites.

While I've got several rifles in the safe, the rifle I hunt with most is a 1977 Marlin 336 in .35 Remington.  The rifle carries great in the mountains of east Tennessee where shots are close and can be quick.  It's not the fanciest rifle in the safe, but more and more I find myself taking it as the nostalgia of hunting with a lever just makes the world feel "right".

Mine is a TC Encore in 6mm Rem.  It packs light, has no real recoil and dispatches game efficiently.  Accurate as the day is long with 100 grain Hornady soft points.  Better yet my daughter does extremely well with it too.

victorcharlie,
I had a marlin model 336 in 35 Remmy.  God was that thing a shooter!!!  I won a bet with a smarta$$ buddy of mine that always had a negative comment about my marlin.  After a few weekends of this I said to put up or shut up.  I knew my marlin would shoot but he had a Remington 700 30-06 with SCOPE and me with old iron sights.  It only took one shot.  I walked off 100 yards and found an old glass coke bottle.  I said you get one shot and let him try first. Well, he missed and I didn't and I walked away with 20 of his dollars.

He shut his mouth after that.

Sorry to say I no longer have that rifle but always wish I never got rid of it.  The guy that owns in now is my uncle and I swears it's the best shooter he has ever had.

Followed by my Custom 9.3x74R Encore.

Speaking of Marlin rifles----there was a guy at the range the other day shooting a Marlin 336 .30-30-----getting 1in groups at 200yds----I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself.

Ya, i think a lot of people underestimate the 30-30's range.

Mine's a pre '64 model 70 standard grade in .270 with a Leupold 3-9x. I shoot one load for everything; 150 gr. Nosler Partitions and IMR 4350 powder. Serial number indicates the rifle was made in 1951 and it's one sweet shooter.
My second favorite is a Ruger M77 II in .257 Roberts with Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x. It seems to love 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips with IMR 4350.

My favorite rifle is actually two! Deer etc? 250 Savage AI on an old 600 Rem action/kevlar stock/Redfield 1 3/4-5. Weighs 5lb 11 oz. Second? Rem 700 in 264 Win Mag/Kevlar stock/Redfield 1 3/4-5 weighs 6lb 3 oz. See the similarities? Both have gone to  Africa and done well. Good enough for me!

My Browning A bolt Medallion in .280 Remington. It's light, pretty, fast handling, and will shoot 1/2" cluster groups at 200 yards all day long.   The most accurate rifle I own. My favorite, and the only bolt action rifle I bought new.

Browning LH Stainless Stalker in 25/06 shooting Sierra 100gr Pro Hunter bullets.  Topped with a Leupold 3.5-10X scope.   Been my friend since 1990.  Just added his big brother to my collection, same gun in 30/06.

1989 Ruger M77 .257 Roberts with 22" barrel.  Vari-X III 4.5-14.  75g V-MAX @ 3600fps for song dogs, 115g TSX or 120g A-Frames at around 2900fps for larger.  With the TSX it has a penchant for shooting the centers out of clay pigeons at 200 yards.

Mine is a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight Classic chambered for the 6.5x55 cartridge. I scoped the rifle with a Leupold VariX II 3x9 in Leupold Dual Dovetail mounts. With Nosler 125 or 140 grain Partitions, it will shoot 1 inch 3 shot groups reliably. I have great confidence in this rifle.

It is my CZ 550 FS in 6.5x55mm topped with a Weaver Grand Slam...  I have had her for two years and have only shot one handload through her...100gr. BT w/varget.  That load gave me the 3000fps+ I was looking for and shot tight, real tight.  Before I got her, I was a handgun hunter...wanted the challenge.  Now that I have her, the challenge is totally gone, but man, I love that gun and can't leave her home!
