I guess my best go to rifle is a heavy barreled Win M70 in 300 Win Mag.  Has a Timney trigger set at 2.5lbs, HS adjustable stock, and a Leopold Mark 4 M3 10X scope.  This rifle is a long range tack driver, and my go to deer rifle.

I like my 2004 Rem 700 Classic 8x57 and I have a 1968 Win 670 7Mag.
Both are great shoooters and full of punch.

Today it's my Winchester Model 70 Classic Featherweight Stainless in 6.5x55. Topped with a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x40. I'd never shot the Swede until I got this gun last February. After reading this thread, I'm starting to see a pattern.   Swede=Good.

That's easy. It's a cheap Walmart version of the Marlin 336 in 30-30.  I think it is the 30-aw model.  It is topped with a Mueller 2-7x32 multishot.  It will shoot .75" @ 100 ( 3 shots)  yards using just about anything I've tried from the main three. This includes Remington, Federal, and Winchester.  I've even used some Wolf gold but the group spread out to over an inch. The Hornady interlocks are about the worst I've tried believe it or not.  With them, my groups spread to over 1.5"@ 100 but still this no big deal.  Anything within 3" is good to hunt with in my opinion.  The longest kill I've had with this gun is 212 yards. That is about the limit for me and my eyes.  I marked it off with a measurement wheel.  I'd have to admit, at the time I thought is was 300.

My is a Colt Ultra lite 30/06 with 3x9 Leupold. It shoots 150 &165 grain SST's in a 1/2" group. Very lite and very little recoil.

Alot of "favorites", but the sweetheart of the bunch is a Husqvarna 8x57 Mauser sporter from the early '50's.  Love it!

Mine would have to be my .280 in a M77 with the 22" blued barrel and wood stock.  Just shot another buck with it Sunday night.  140 grain accubond over 53 grains of IMR 4350.  Even in thick brush, I can throw the gun up and the crosshairs are where they are suppose to be when my eyes catch up.  The gun fits me better than any I have ever tried, and it just "feels right".

Although, after that buck, I grabbed by late grandfathers Marlin 30-30.  I must say, there is just something about a lever gun!  Now I want to get one in a .45-70.

Y'all are gonna giggle.  The rifle that always goes to the range, cleans up ground squirrels and rabbits in the yard is a CZ 452 Lux.  Nothing fancy, European design stock, and open adjustable sights.  But it shoots strait and will hit clay pigeons out to 200 yards with a simple change of the Mauser style rear sights.  It will feed CB longs out of the Magazine for back yard plinking and pest control.  You can clap your hands louder than the CB's out of the long barrel.   It's just a full sized handy rifle I picked up a few years ago for under $260 out the door new.  If you really like your rifle do not buy one or even shoot one.  It too will be your favorite too.
I own a number of rifles including a M70 classic super grade but the little .22lr goes everywhere.  Heck it's not even the first rifle I purchased or was given.

Many years back I built my father a 30-06 on a US M1903 action, 24" Douglas barrel, Brown Precision glass stock and a Burris 3x9. He used it for many years out in Wyoming taking antelope and deer. I have it now. Its a bit long in the stock for me but I can adapt to it. Never needs rezoning, I just put a few rounds down the tube to make sure zero hasn't changed (it never does). Its not particular to any one type of ammo, pretty much shoots anything I feed it to point of aim.
I have alot of other rifles but I am attached to this one.

It was my Tikka 300 Win Mag, but I just replaced it with a Browning BAR 300 Win Mag. If I don't use my Browning, it would have to be my Marlin 1895 lever action 45-70.

But seeing how this is the bolt action Forum, I will have to say my new bolt action go to gun that is a sweetheart  is my Sako 375 H&H, it was made in 1961 and it is a classic gun and great shooter.

Well, the one that "lives" with me the most, that's behind the truck seat, and I always grab when I'm going afield in bad weather is a Win 70 Classic Stainless Featherweight in .308 Win., with Leupold Vari-X III 1.75-6 on it.  It will shoot most anything I feed it, including factory loads, into an inch and a quarter or less (sometimes MUCH less).  But with a couple of special loads using 150gr SST's, BT's, or Accubonds and Varget powder it will get over 2900 fps and 1/2" groups.  The longest shot I've ever attempted on big game was with this rifle: 528 yards for a 160's class 9pt that weighed 334lbs on the hoof (and it was a one-shot kill).

But if it's not pouring or a blizzard blowing, I'm just as likely to grab a Sako L-61R Finnbear in .30-06, a customized Ruger M-77R in .280 Rem (unbelievably accurate), or a Ruger M-77RL Ultra Light in .250-3000.

Those are my main sweeties.

Hey Redhawk1, how do you know the age of your AIII in .375 H&H?  I too have one and purchased it a couple of years ago when I was looking for a varmint rig.  Wise butt gun smith I used to see at one of the local shops (Yes Russ if your reading this it's you!) pulled a new Sako off the wall in .375 and said how about this.  My AIII was just behind it and I purchased it wearing a 4X Leupold scope.  Blew Russ' mind when I said OK and pulled out some cash.  I plan on using it as a brush elk or hopefully someday moose.
The serial Number is 540XXX.

mcwoodduck, I went to this site and confirmed what I was told when I bought the rifle from the original owner. Mine is a L61R Finnbear Magnum not the AIII.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sako

What's your favorite centerfire rifle. The one that you go to most often?

Mines not a bolt action, but it is a center fire, and it "is" my go to gun!!

  It's my Krieghoff Semper 8x57jrs

It keeps working year after year after year for me, making one shot kills on moose bear and other big game, including this buck i harvested opening day this year...

Actually my son's rifle but I had it built for him before he was born.

CUSTOM REMINGTON MODEL 7 IN 6.5-.284 BY HENRY BALL

CUSTOM McGOWEN SUPER MATCH GRADE CHROME-MOLY BARREL

BELL AND CARSON CARBALITE STOCK
STEEL PILLAR BEDDING SYSTEM

LEUPOLD 2.5 X 8 VARI X III SCOPE
MILLET ENGRAVED RINGS

Sweetest rifle I have ever loaded for. I have yet to find a load it will not shoot MOA or under if we do our part.

My baby;

.

Over all cost was very low.

I Used .270 LH Savage detachable mag rifle from Gun Broker $280.00
Hardware for internal box mag conversion 50.00
Stockade Money Saver stock with pillar bedding system 150.00
Aluminum trigger guard 19.00
Sharp Shooters Supply tactical bolt handle 40.00
Camo paint (Krylon matte Fusion) by me 15.00
Testors Dull Coat finish (5 coats) 10.00
Leupold scope mount base and rings 39.00

Total $603.00

Of course this does not include the cost of the Leupold Vari X III as I already had it or the cost of my screw up when I broke a scope base screw off in the receiver. But over all I was pleased with the cost and the results. I have spent twice that on rifles that could not shoot half as well. The Stockade stocks are fantastic! They equal or excel the McMillan or H&S in strength and quality. They include a full length aluminum bedding system from the front sling swivel to the pistol grip. I included an aluminum trigger guard (replacing the plastic one) in the build since one of the action screws secures thru the rear trigger guard hole. That allows me to put equal and constant torque on the bedding screws and contributes to the over all accuracy. I also skim coated the aluminum bedding blocks in the stock with bedding compound that allowed the pillars to form exactly to the receiver bottom. The barrel is free floated and the end result is a rifle that is truly neutral bedded. I have yet to find a load that will not shoot from this rifle. Sure makes load selection easy and shooting it fun.

End result is a rifle that shoots most factory ammo from 1.2 to 1 MOA. My current hunting load is Hornady Custom 130 grain ammo. It shoots 1/2 MOA from this rifle. I have not shot a single handload form this rifle yet so I don't know what it is really capable of
