What's "pull down" powder?

I have heard the term used in the case of some one disassembling ammo.
Pulldown powder was loaded into ammo and then taken back part

Typically it is powder that comes from former US ammunition that has been disassembled.  Bullets, brass and powder are sold separately then.  Part of Clinton's agenda that doesn't allow surplus ammunition to be directly sold to the public.  The exception is the CMP which can sell directly to qualifying citizens.

the previous poster is correct but it can also refer to any powder removed from a cartridge.  I have powder that I removed from some 8MM surplus ammo that was very hot.  I measured the amount that was in the original cartridge and it is sitting in a can and I will reuse it as pulled down power and reuse it in the original 8mm but reduced about 10%.  JB

I had heard this term but really didn't know what it meant either...
I figured that it was when one Pulled the appropriate canister of powder Down off the shelf so that cases could be charged

Wasn't Hodgdon's early 4831 reclaimed (pulled down) from loaded 20mm ammo, and both 4895 and Ball C reclaimed from loaded military .06 ammo?

When 4831 first became available it didn't have a number, but was referred to as "4350 data".

I'm an old (in my eighties) hand loader who recalls paying fifty two cents a pound for 4831 and less than a dollar a pound for 4895. Good old days.

To begin with, all 4895 powder was military surplus. When IMR introduced their newly manufactured IMR 4895 Hodgdon added an "H" to their 4895 to differentiate the two.

Similar things happened with 4831. Now we have IMR 4831 and H 4831, both newly manufactured since the WWII military surplus stuff has all been sold. In addition to that we have the short cut (SC) versions of 4831.
