What is the barrel twist rate on a Marlin 1894 .44 magnum
« on: October 29, 2007, 09:30:40 PM »
In early 2006 I bought a Marlin 1894 in .44 magnum.  Does it come with the same lousy twist rate as does the H & R in .44 magnum?

I bought a Buffalo classic in 45-70 because I did not like the fact that H & R's Handi Rifle in .44 magnum came with a  1 in 38 twist rate barrel!

I wonder why H & R chose this lousy 1 in 38" twist rate to begin with?  Sure hope the 1894 has a faster twist.

Could a 1894 that was purchased in 2006 still have the Micro-groove barrel (Or whatever they're called)?

Read what's stamped on the barrel.  If it says Micro Groove, then it is - If it doesn't, it isn't.

IIRC, Different model rifles have differing twist rates.

Not all Marlin Microgroove barrels are stamped so.  If the barrel rifling has more than 6 grooves it is Microgroove.  The Marlin 1894 44 Magnum comes with a 1:38" right hand twist rifling which is the industry standard for the 44 Remington Magnum, rifle or pistol.

I stand corrected.  I don't know where or why Marlin chose a 1:38" twist rate for the 44 Magnum and previous 444 Marlins.
