Suggestions for QD mounts for a .375 H&H Win Mod 70 Classic
« on: October 29, 2007, 11:24:39 PM »
Maybe this belongs in the Big Bore area, so move it please if you think so, but I know this rifle is one of JJ's favourites, so I'm hoping he'll chip in with a recommendation and all the rest of you who hunt with rifles where sometimes you need / want to remove the scope.

I'm wondering whether those of you who have access to more alternatives than I do here is South Africa can make some suggestions.

I purchased a Win Mod 70 Classic Stainless Syn a while back (don't have my license yet!), but wanted to buy scope bases and some form of QD rings. I'm not concerned about whether they are blued or stainless, just that they work! I'll probably need 30mm rings. There are bases on the rifle, but I don't know them, and we don't have enough variety here that I can go and compare them to various brands to identify them.

I've heard good things about Talley, but any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

Tally's are the big dog in the market in the USA. They copied the original Kimber design when Kimber bailed out with some financial issues. Kimber to my knowledge sold the design to Warne.

The reality is that Kimber, Warne, and Talley are the same basic design, and all function equally well in my opinion.

I have Seen countless Talleys and think they are great rings and bases, I've also seen plenty of Warnes,  and I own a set of both Warne and Kimber which are just as good. I find no fault with the Warnes and have them on my personal 375HH. They stay tight, and allow the scope to come off and go back one retaining perfect zero.

Since the Kimber Rings can only be found for sale used to my knowledge, that leaves you with Warne and Talley to buy new. For the ultimate in status the Tally is the the one to have. For function the warne is pretty much the same mechanical design at a fraction of the price.

Thanks JJ. That's the type of info that I wanted. At the price the Warne is the one to use ;D .

Thanks for the response.
