My best 45-70 Load So Far
« on: October 30, 2007, 01:54:32 AM »
Finally went through all the test loads and found what shoots best out of my new 1895.

46gr. IMR 4198, using a 350gr. LBT LFN bullet.
I did all my test shooting at 50 yards and decided to check out what I thought was the most accurate load at 100 yds.

Center to Center was 1", and was zeroed at 3/4" high.

I will be chronographing this load next time I'm out, and from loading manual information, This load should be somewhere between 1900-2000.

Next I will be working on finding a load with a little less recoil in the 1500-1600fps range.

I found out quickly, there is a BIG difference in recoil going from 1500fps to 2000.

Still a blast to shoot, literally and figuratively.

This is turning out to be one of my favorite calibers to work with.

The term "From Mild to Wild" isn't there for no reason.  Those 2000fps 400gr loads really get your attention. ;D

Sounds like you found a nice load for sure.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!
