Double Rifle: Double Trigger or Single Trigger
« on: October 31, 2007, 02:03:23 AM »
I am picking up my Valmet 412 30-06 double rifle which has a single selective trigger.  Should I keep the single trigger or add a double trigger?  The double trigger will have different pull weights.  I believe the front tripper is 6 or 8 lbs while the back trigger is 4 lbs.  For combo guns the difference in pull weight has never been an issue.  But will it be an issue with a double rifle?
thanks
Doug

At last a new post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a shotgun I have always like double triggers. You can load a slug or buckshot in one barrel and bird shot in the other and by simply switching triggers shoot the appropriate barrel.

In a double rifle I don't really see and advantage to 2 triggers. DM says you need them though. Maybe he'll be along shortly to tell us why. Regards, Byron and I hope you enjoy your new toy. ( And just in time for christmas )

There are several reasons to have double triggers on a DR....  One is, some folks like to carry two different styles of bullets in each bbl., like a solid in one bbl., and a soft point in the other...  Or maybe two different bullets weights?

But, the best reason of all is, doubles are really two guns in one, that are side by side.  If one side fails the other side still works perfectly....that is "if" the gun has double triggers!  It's all about reliability...

As for two trigger pull weights, i'll bet that you will have two different pull weights with a single trigger too...  That happens mostly because of sear enguagement, and a double has two sears no matter how many triggers it has.

Another thing, if you have double triggers on one gun, wouldn't you want double triggers on the second one too?  Why give yourself yet "another" thing to think about when your in a hunting situation?

  Make mine, double triggers please...

That alone has convinced me to go with double triggers...

Thanks for the insights.
