17 Hornet barrel?
« on: October 31, 2007, 01:15:19 PM »
Hi
Quite a while ago the Thompson Center Association in their "One good shot", had a listing of all of the different factory calibers and barrel lengths. In that, they listed a 17 Hornet. I was wondering if any one had ever seen one? They probably didn't make many, as the 17K Hornet would probably get the most attention. I have checked Ed's T/Cs, and Ron's.
I just wondered as I have never seen a factory 17 Hornet barrel.
Thanks
jim

I have a 17AH Contender barrel now and have owned several over the years. Mine have all been custom barrels, and have never had one I didn't enjoy. They are easy to form brass and load for, cheap to shoot no more powder than they use. Go on Saubier. com and ask about the 17 AH. You will get all the info you need. It has been around for years, and is used by a lot of the small caliber shooters.

Hi
It is hard to believe that 120 "T/C nutz" have never seen a 17 Hornet. They are supposed to be out there. But I have never seen one... I do have a 17 K Hornet... Do you think that is the 17 AH Just a different name? Any way maybe #125 member will know of a 17 Hornet.
Thanks
jim

Sir, there are several different 17 hornets, the most common being the 17AH. My 17 hornet is not a true 17 AH but a modification of it. There is a true 17 hornet that is the hornet case necked to 17 caliber without the shoulder being blown out. Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool makes the reamer for it. It looks like like a 17 AH before it is fire formed. Anytime the 17 hornet is talked about it is usually the 17 K or 17 AH, one has a 30 degree shoulder, the other a 35 degree shoulder. I have only known of one true 17 hornet with out the case being blown out, that was years ago, and the old man that had it built it himself.

Hi
I was just wondering if any one had ever seen a factory 17 hornet? I realize there are lots of 17's. But in the TCA "One Good Shot" they listed factory chambering and length barrels. They had 17 hornet, I have looked for a while and never seen one, and thought this would be a cool place to ask if any one else had seen one. And so far the score is zero.....
Thanks
