Painting my rifle in camo.

I want to paint my gun to a desert camo, how do I do it?  I mean I know how to paint very well with a lot of experience but I want the finish to be very durable, I mean it would be very hard to damage the paint so it lasts a long time and stands up well.  Any tips? Do I have to do anything special to the surface? Besides cleaning it with alcohol. Also it has a synthetic stock so I am worried I won’t get the paint to stick very well, and I don’t to paint into parts where I don’t want paint on it?

I thought that someone would have jumped in here by now.  I'll start by saying I have not painted any of my guns YET.  But I have plans to paint at least 2 of them.  In the NEF / H&R Centerfire Rifles forum there has been some discussion about painting rifles.  Some have painted wood stocks with car trunk textured paint and then a coat of black paint so that it looks like a black synthetic stock.  And then there are a wide range of other colors and patterns.  Some have mentioned using the Kylon Fusion paint that was made for painting plastics as the base coat on synthetic stocks and then painting over it with whatever colors they wanted.  In the NEF / H&R Centerfire Rifles forum there is a thread called FAQ's and HELP look about halfway down through the topics and you'll see a link labeled Let's see some Handis, if you follow that link you can see pics of some of the things users have done.  Below that link is a couple of links called PAINT YOUR HANDI 1, PAINT YOUR HANDI 2 and LOCKUP ISSUE AFTER PAINTING.

Regardless of who manufactured your gun, I think you will find a lot of information that will be useful.  One of my projects will be to paint a SKS stock with Rustoleum's Multicolor Textured paint in the sand bisque color.  A simple way to get a little of the desert camo look.  Good luck and post a pic when you get done.

Sorry this is old... hope you see it... try looking up Dura Coat... you can get all kinds of paint and even patterns for different camo patterns.  I'm planning the same project.  This looks like good stuff...
