whats the difference between the 7400 and 7600 trigger group?

IIRC the 7400 trigger group does not have the bolt locking lever.

Don't you mean just the opposite?

Actually, if you use a 7400 magazine in a 7600 the bolt will lock open on the pump after the last round just as it will in the auto.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are referring to as the bolt locking lever...?

DMF, the lever (tab next to the trigger guard, not the magazine release) I referred to is the one you have to push to unlock the bolt after a 760/7600 is cocked. You are correct. The 742/7400 magazine has a raised area on the follower that holds the bolt open.

what i was wanting to do was have a spare so I could send the one in the gun off for a trigger job and still hunt with it while its trigger is gone

IMHO the cost would not be worth the extra trigger assembly. I'd hunt with the rifle as is this season and worry about the trigger job later. I put a weaker trigger spring in my 7600 and I'll probably just leave it as is. If you get used to the creep in the trigger it is an aset shooting off hand for me.

I think what I'm going to do is buy a used 7400 and send to Accuracy systems and have them put a 7x57 barrel on it and do the trigger at that time.

I handled my hunting partners 7600 in the 270 yesterday. I liked the way it handled and felt. Then I squeezed the trigger. That has to be the worst trigger I have ever felt in my life. Dale
