Newbie question: Czech or Yugo 24/47 how do you tell?

Hello all, I've been visitin' your site for some time and thought I would finally join. Great site!
How do you tell a Czech from a Yugo 24/47?

To answer my own question: What I have has the Yugoslavia crest so I guess that makes it Yogo. Now What action did they use? Long or intermediate?

Trascan:  Welcome aboard!  Yep, that's a Yugoslavian VZ/24, said to be the smoothest of the 98s.  It's a long action, not the intermediate action used for the M48s.  HTH.  Mikey.

He is the moderator, but I disagree.  To my knowledge, the 24/47 is a the same intermediate action as the M48.  Mikey disagrees.  I would seek another opinion or just take Mikey at his word.

bluebayou:  Being the moderator on this site doesn't mean that I know all to end all and you may be perfectly correct.  My thought is that if it's a VZ-24, or started life as a VZ-24 but then was factory re-worked at Preduze 44) then its a VZ-24 action with a newer barrel.  I have a VZ/CZ 24-52.  When I purchased the rifle I was told it was a VZ-24 that had been factory reworked at the Preduze 44 (factory) in 1952 and had been rebarrelled, but it was still a VZ-24 action. 

I also have a VZ-24 WWII bring-back that has the same size action and barrel length as the 24/52. 

I also have a M48A, which is a different critter.  The bolt from the 48A is shorter than the VZ bolt and is not interchangable and vice-versa. 

I'm thinking (hard enough to go for a 2nd cup of coffee) that possibly the Preduze kept the modle 24 moniker but I don't think they are the same action.

As for a 2nd opinion - I think I'm handsome...................Mikey.

My thinking is that the 24/47 is a reworked intermediate Yugo Preduze action.  There is also an intermediate Yugo 48 action that uses the same stock.

What complicates things is that the Yugos also reworked long action VZ-24's and FN 24's into the 24/52.

In my opinion.

The Czech 24, FN24 and the Yugo 24/47 are standard length actions. The Yugo 48 is a different rifle/action, it was built in 1948 using tooling left over from WWII and the action is shorter than a standard Mod 98 action but was and is  still large enough for the 7.92 X 57 round. The Yugo is a reworked Czech action/rifle and bears the designation 24/47 meaning it was done after the war to the Czech mod 24 rifle in 1947. This info can be found in the book Model 98 Mausers or found on line in a search. JimP.
