500 S&W range report
« on: November 04, 2007, 03:18:09 PM »
well  thanks to all of you here !

here in indiana  our state lets us use rifles for the first time this year, BUT the had to be certain handgun rounds  only!   I picked up a 500 s&w handi as it was a legal caliber.
So here goes the prep  100 passes with JB bore paste and oil with patches and a nice fitting jag.A youth stock with a sims recoil pad and a 16 ounce c&h mercury recoil reducer in the stock, REAPER scope mount and a new 1.5x4.5 32mm bsa catseye with a 4A reticle.      I picked a 325 grain barnes XPB spitzer in shooting star once fired brass sized, trimmed, deburred inside and out, using 44.0 grains of lil' gun and a federal large rifle match primer      chrony was 2275fps at muzzle  temp 38 degrees lite breeze     I fired a repeatable 3 shot group of 1 1/4 inches twice so i set my zero at 2inches high @ 100 yrds                wooo hooo    I am sooo ready!!!!!!!!!   thanks one and alll

                                                                                                                              Dave

Scoot up to the 700 grain lead and pleasant doesn't enter your thoughts.   I really like the versatility of the 500 S&W.  Good luck and good shooting.

Good Luck...  our opening day is this Friday, but still shotgun slugs in IL.  We'll make a lot of noise here in IL on Friday and chase the deer to IN for your shoot on Saturday  ;)
