tarus revolver 38cal.

i traded for a tarus 38, does not have a model # on it i can find.
it looks like a s&w, full grips, has emblem that looks like S&W until you get close.
nice heavy 38
can some one tell me what model it might be or where to look for amodel #
sorry don't have ser# with me can to work half cocked.

Should be stamped where the cylinder opens. Don't know the technical term for that part.

OK!
i finally remembered to look.
when you swing out the cylinder, on the frame it has 83
on the part in front of the cylinder it has p then below 998
or a 866 then below upside down p
that is all i can find, that looks like a model # or proof mark.

looked on the site you suggested
guess it is a model 83, but it has wood grips (S&W type) looks like new no wood or blue
marks.
it belonged to a lady that passed away, i bought it from her husband, since then he has passed.
Is their any way to find out how old the gun is.

If that doesn't work, you can always call them with the serial # handy and they should be able to tell you.

Hogue makes wood grips which are specifically designed to fit on that type of taurus frame, so it would look pretty stock on it.  Plus, the way taurus revolver grips all, they just pull off, and there is only one point of attachment on the bottom, meaning there wouldn't be much in the way of marking....

I bought a model 83 Taurus in stainless. It was for my wife, and she picked it out herself. This was back in '94 or '95.
 Your revolver should have adjustable sights.
Ours is a very dependable and  accurate  shooter, and very well made, fitted, and finished. I would buy another, but I have not seen one except on the auction sites.
If yours is in blue or nickle, it is a close knockoff of the S&W model 15. I have 3 of the Smith 15s.
If it is in stainless, it is similar to the S&W model 67.
