I am not from Colorado nor have I ever shot there what I do know is they are there in good numbers but you have to have private land rights as the anti's have put a stop to the public land hunting of PD. Kurt

Well I have heard of one group that goes around to private land, and signs an agreement with the land owner and destroys the rodents, but I am not sure what the group is called or where to find info.....

Heck, if someone wants to punch paper sometime I am always up for it too.

As far as I know, they'll be another PD shoot in the panhandle of Ok. in June, and that's not very far from Colorado. All of the guy's there this year got along real well and had some of the best ribs ever to hit a plate. We sure have a good time there.  Digger

Rick:

I'm in Pueblo and go when I can. Have several ranches I can shoot up most anytime I desire.

Life happenings keeps me occupied and broke much of the time though. been fighting an engine heating problem in the truck a full yr and still don't have it whipped yet. Believe we've figured it's the intake gasket now, that'll be changed next week.

I'd like to have another hunting partner IF you're around this part of the state.
Contact me by e'mail as I don't get over here too often it seems.  georgeld@hotmail.com, I'm on there almost everyday.

.223, 17M2 and just about to start using my new custom .17x28mm NEF.

OH yeah, I go for coyotes in the winter too.  Pdgs are year around when the sun shine's.

Actually, the Colorado Division of Wildlife finally found some sense with the whole PD regs.  PD hunting on private land = year round.  PD hunting allowed on public land June 15, 2007 - the end of Feb., 2008.

I just go with the private land program and have fun.  Land owners are always willing to have the little buggers controlled.

Rick what part of Colorado are you in?  I'm always ready to go shooting or hunting just about anything.  Only know a handful of guys to shoot with, and none that want to actually drive to go shoot PDs or coyotes I'll swing by pick you up and head off to meet up that guy in Wyoming for some serious PD shooting.

I live in Colorado Springs, and I'm new to the hunting world. Last year I bought a NEF 223 handi, I Love the idea or PD hunting, and Coyote hunting. I'm actually looking for a good spot to coyote hunt close to the springs, I'm also on a limited budget, so limited I havn't bought a scope for the 223 yet. Looking to be my next spend in the next month or so, but I'd love to get in with some people to learn!

Welcome aboard dabeersboys and glad to have you here with us. Perhaps a few less "dabeers" and there would be a scope on that .223 :D ;D ;).
Try watching the "Pay it Forward" thread near the bottom of this site. There have been 2 scopes offered and accepted there in the past couple of weeks, but you have to check often to be first in line for the good stuff. Be sure you are aware of the rules and have fun with it. If you take something you have to pay the postage unless the person offering the item says you don't have to. You are then required to put up something else on the board. It is a fun place to watch and you could always just offer up something you no longer need to help another....<><....:)

I'm in lakewood...

Generally I'm a little leery of people on the Internet that want to pick me up, nothing personal lol

I wish I could figure out a ranch fairly close that is in need of P-dog control.....

Getting geared up for some hardcore prairie dog action here!!!

Ok then you guys can drive yourselves.
Some friends and I have loaded up the truck on two occasions and just drove east on I-70.  The first time we never seen one dog.  The second time we drove east and then headed south.  Finally found some PD's and we were East of the springs.  I'd think you just need to head East drive some dirt roads till you find PD's.  Knock on the owners door and ask real nice.
Also my wifes uncle has property up by Lake Gorge off hwy 24.  There's coyotes and fox all over up there.  I think it has to do with the Haymen fire burning off all the trees.  Now instead of the ground being pine needles it's mostly grass.  With the grass lots of bunnies to feed the coyotes.
One more thing is there are lots of bears in that area.  One time a couple of years ago we were camping on the uncles property.  I slip off early in the morning before everyone wakes up to try calling.  (not a lot of experince here either only have shot two coyotes so far)  First place I set down tried cotton tail call for a while no luck.  What the hell I'm in the mountains I'll try a fawn in distress call.  No luck.  Just sitting there kinda enjoying the quiet morning wondering what the next move was when a BIG cinnamon colored black bear comes slowly walking out of the aspens.  Probably only 50 yards away.  I don't know if I called it in or just happened to sit down on it's route.  At that time I stopped calling..duh, and wish I had something bigger than my handi 223.   Stopped one time probably when he winded me for about 15 seconds.  Looked in my direction, and then he waddled off out of site.  First and only close encounter with a bear.  Not a slobbering grizzly, but had my pulse up a notch or two.
There's lots of places to go around your area.
Have fun

Further east of Denver and the springs, the more p/dogs there are.
Just look responsible and safe. Most ranchers will allow shooting out in those parts.

Try around Limon, Joes, or most any direction down the dirt roads, they run all over the
country out there.  When you see a batch, go to the nearest ranch house and ask.
IF they don't own the place, they'll know who does and many times will still tell you to
have at it. OR will call the owner and ask, or direct you to where the owner is/lives.

It's not very hard to find a place to shoot p/dogs, IF there are some. and there's always
some somewhere on the plains. Just don't ask to shoot among the cattle unless you happen
to already know the rancher and have permission to.

Good luck, and take plenty of ammo.

I'm from Wyo but spend time in Colo. daughter lives there. I can never find any Colo small game regulations. Do you have to have a small game license to hunt pdogs in Colo. I drive by gobs of them in eastern Utah too and need to find out about shooting there.

Thanks stimpy, I've looked several times and never been able to find a paper copy.
