Which Taurus as a trail gun?

I live in SE AZ.  I want a handgun for defense against wildlife.  We have lots of coyotes, a few mountain lions, and fewer small black bears.

I just checked the Taurus website.  Are all of their revolvers ported?  Can you shoot snakeshot through a ported gun?

wait till the next Gun Show in Tucson, they used to have a small one in Sierra Vista. pick up a older Model 28 Smith. It will shoot any 357 you put in it. you will never look back I got one that has seen better days  her blue is holster worn I had to fix a split grip we have come many mile .

For your needs, sounds like you would want something in a mid-sized .357.  The tracker with the ribber grip is a pretty nice feeling gun.  I don't have one myself, but know quite a few happy people with them.

Other guns like the GP-100 would do well too.

Caliber is up to you.    BUT I would not carry one until its been shot a couple hundred rounds to make sure it is functioning right. I recently ordered 3  and sent them ALL back. I'm not knocking them as much as it might sound my carry gun and my hunting gun are both taurus's and they have a home here forever. Just check it out thoroughly .

Very true.. I have a hard time ordering guns without feeling them out in the first place... only done it a few times...  But taurus revolvers, even though I love mine... are definitely ones that need it.

I'd use the Taurus Judge in 410/45 Colt.  Allows you to use 410 shells against snake or small rabid animals and 45 Colt against the larger ones.  I got mine for wilderness use.

We actually owned a 45-10 until we had to sell it.  It was my wife's rattlesnake gun.

I'm starting to wonder if there's anything wrong with the Taurus autos for general use?  I'm intrigued by the Millenium Pro in .45 ACP.  They're compact, feel good in the hand and seem to have a good trigger.  My gut tells me that such a light gun in .45 caliber would be hard to shoot, but the old arthritic guy at the gun shop says it's easy to shoot.

I have a PT 145 it is very controllable. Shoots pretty accurate. I'm Pleased with mine.
