I want a 3 lb trigger pull!! Help me Please!
« on: November 12, 2007, 06:47:23 AM »
I have a contender, pre-g2, it is an easy open frame.  Anyway, I bought a trapper spring kit for it and it increased my pull from about 3 3/4 to about 4 1/4 lbs!  I use it for hunting so I do not want a 1 pound pull or anything but I would like it to be around 3 lbs or a little less.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?  Any spring kits or anything I can do on my part to lessen the pull?  I've done trigger jobs on my revolvers but never on a contender but I do have all the stones, etc. to do the job.  Whatever you can teach me or inform me on the subject would be appreciated.  Also, if their  is a special spring kit out there please give me some contact info if possible.

Thanks for your help.

Bob

Did you use all the springs in the kit?  The only spring I change when I buy the Trapper Kit is the trigger spring.  I have done 5 by just changing the trigger spring and they are all in the 2 1/2 -3 lb range.

Did you adjust the sear engagement screw?  Might also want to adjust that and see if that helps.

Bullseye,

Thanks for responding.  I changed both springs-including that darn hammer spring!  Should I go back and remove the Trapper hammer spring and put the old one back in?  Does anyone have any secrets for the install of those horrible springs?

Thanks,

Bob

best way to install hammer spring is to make a slave pin from a drill bit to use to install spring.  dave

drichi,

Can you post a picture of a slave pin for doing the hammer spring?

Thanks,

Bob

don't have a way of posting picture, but will try to explain. make pin just long enough to hold spring on hammer so you can insert into frame and then when you put the frame pin in it will push the slave pin out the other side, thus making putting the hammer and spring in a lot easier. Many bad words will not be said!  dave

My slave pin is a 3/8" long piece of 3/16" drill shank.

I just use a nail cut to length for a slave pin.
