Lloyd,
What is the last factory offering for this cartridge that you can remember?
The 5 shot charter arms bulldog comes to mind for myself...Was this in the 90's?

S&W had that stainless 5 shot on the 'L' frame for a short time also.  Darn it!  I really don't like buying new handguns.  I like to find them used and save a few bucks, but it looks like this is one I will have to have.  Of course it would still be cheaper than my other choice; finding a nice 4 3/4" barrel New Frontier in .44 spl.  UNLESS it is on the flat top 44 Mag frame, then I don't see the point of having it over the flat top 44 Mag, it would be just as big and heavy.  However if it might be on the smaller 'New Vaquero' frame, I will be first in line!  44 Man

I'd heard the .44 special was likely but another try at the 45 Colt Redhawk?  They didn't seel well enough before to keep them very long.  However with thier lean style of manufacturing, they could make a single run of them and call it good for the year like with some other models.

Well, I don't want to say anything against 'old Bill', but it seems to me since he has been gone, that Ruger is bringing out many more models, more improvements, and responding to it's customers base more.  This would be another illustration of that.  44 Man

A .44 Special could tempt me IF it is the smaller frame, with adjustable sights and a 5.5" barrel. Still it is a Ruger and likely would only disappoint me but I might give it a chance to if it meets all those criteria.

Now Graybeard, you know you would just compare that Ruger to a Freedom Arms 97 and be unhappy.  So you will have to sell it to me at a discount when that happens and go buy yourself a FA.  44 Man

the other rumor is a 4 inch 45 redhawk

I'll need about a dozen of those! I did hear that one of the prototypes did get sent out by mistake already.

I'd be more than happy with a Ruger Blackhawk in 44 spec. Then I could have one of those fine gunsmiths massage it to perfection.

i do not know how i missed this post. i just dropped off my 357 to convert to a 44 special. probably about the same wait. i'll still have to investigate a ruger actually designed for the 44 special, but i'm sure the smith will also do a fine job on my conversion.  dan

It would be great if Ruger would make a 44 Special but I wouldn't count on it happening. I'd love to be surprised though.

If they would make it on the New Vaquero frame with fixed sights, I'd be real tempted.  I mean REAL TEMPTED!!!!!!!!!

I really love a 44 special SA. That's a great BP Cartridge.
