Why not, there's nothing special about it, case head is smaller and pressure is less than the 270 Winchester. Right now, there's just no .17 cal centerfire barrel made by Marlin, the .17 rimfire barrels are 1137 steel, all centerfire barrels are 4140 alloy, so I don't think they'd use the rimfire barrel blanks for this hot centerfire.

Ok guys, I got some info from my confidential source, new offerings will be 7mm Rem mag and 300 Win mag with blued frames and 26"(hurray!!!) ;D stainless barrels in synthetic stocks, they were going to offer 338 Win mag, but apparently that was cancelled. :(

So there ya go!

So if that is true then they have done something to overcome the case head thrust issue. Will be interesting to see what they have done to the frames to accommodate the magnums.

Their testing was done on current production frames with no issues, hopefully we'll be able to get barrels fitted to our late model frames. I suspect they'll be long throated tho.

Tim

That part isn't correct, the magnum frames are a tougher alloy and different heat treat, so the mag barrels can't be fitted to current frames.

Sorry for the mis info.

When TC started making Magnum barrels for the TCR the only thing they did was use a different locking lug to hold the barrel closed.

7MM Mag, 100gr to 195gr bullets, interesting.

300 Win Mag, a souped up 30-06, 95 to 250 gr bullets, OK now we're talking.

Looks like a new gun in my future, then again maybe I'll hold out to see the outlook for the .338 Win Mag.  That would be my number one choice.  I have a .35 Whelen so a 300 does not really trip my trigger.

Then again since a .300 is one of the big popular rounds I don't own I might have to try one out.  Still think of it as a souped up 06, but worth a look see.  I'm really wanting a Center-fire .17 like the .17 Remington, or a .17 Fireball.

A ".375 Ruger" Handi would have been interesting.  I love the cartridge, but I don't like the M77.

One good thing about the 300mag is that means they will have a 26" .30 cal barrel, maybe they'll offer 26" 308 Win and 30-06 barrels too (30-30???), something they've not had before!!

No dates yet, but traditionally, new offerings have been available in March-June sometime.

I Need to hurry up and buy that recoil reduction thingy before they raise the price, and run out!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Hmmmmmm ,

Interesting news ..... Had a 7 mag once , felt it was too much gun for the ranges I encounter here in Arky-land .... Gave my brother utter hell when he came home with a 300 mag ... for the same reasons as I felt for the 7 mag, and of course that very deer season after getting the 7 mag (at a Uber good price) I got the longest shot I have made on a whitetail to date 245 yrds.

Really proved my line of thinking on that much gun for these size animals ... I fear what it would have looked like should the animal have been at the average 25 to 50 yards hahaha!

But other then my tired just got off work ramblings .... I wouldn't mind a 300 mag or seven at the present cost of having one mated to my handi, since here in the very near future my brother and I will be heading out for our first buffalo hunt

Ironic enough while I was talking him into a H&R ultra the other night during his B-day party , he griped about there not being a 300 mag or 338 mag in the selection of calibers (we want to go to alaska here in the next year ,and the 338 mag is the lightest most outfitters for Brownies allow...

He will be Tickled I'm sure to hear this news , as I know I am ;)

  Regards,

I look at this from a technical aspect. I don't much care for either of the mag offerings that are going to introduce. But this means they have strengthened / hardened the underlug or modified the frames to handle the case head thrust from the magnum cases. Now I would get real birdie for one in 223 wssm or 243 wssm. Tim you have tried the 300 wssm and had underlug issues so they must have toughened that part up.

Hi Folks, Since I am Tim's source for information, I need to correct some info. I gave him on this topic. The frames for the magnums are manufactured with a different alloy and subjected to a special heat treat. Sorry, the details are confidential on the process. When I get more info., I will pass it along to Tim.

I hope they don't drop any of the good calibers like 30-30, now that's a #1 caliber for a handi! I won't be first in line for this big mag. handi rifle caliber......Someone else can put there money down on these beast! The receivers better take that jolt!(SB3 receiver?) Price will be an issue here! Only time will tell if the consumer will want the big mag! We seen other calibers come and go very quick 7.62x39 that lasted about 1 year! Dale

Is there any word on whether or not a new receiver will be needed or is the SB2 to be used?? The 7mm and .300 mags should sell well as both are very popular. Personally I don't have any need or desire to purchase a fast magnum but there are alot of people who will welcome a magnum Handi. I think it's a good decision for the company to add them to the lineup.

Now if they would add the 6.5x55, .257 Roberts, .260, 7x57, .35 Rem., etc.

I just talked with my confidential informant, the magnum frames are a tougher alloy and different heat treat, so the mag barrels can't be fitted to current frames. :'(
