I'm holding out for a solid 10% + bonus.  After all your work I wouldn't settle for less than 15% and an extra week's vacation!

You took the words eight out of my mouth, Dictator!  Mike and I just ordered several last night, after leaving the shop, for the very same reason.  We hope to convert several of our shooting friends over to the BIG BOOMERS!!

They really do look great,

Mike and Tracy
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

We'll treat you right and put y'all up INSIDE.

Retirement?  Never crossed my mind.  Too much fun at work!

Getting on with the bathroom remodeling.  Took a day off work and put in the soffit and two 12" x 8' shelves just under (low shelf being about 6'-6" above the floor.  Lots of fun in a house built in 1912.

Next comes finishing them and then I start on building the vanity and linnen cabinet.

Still have some oak trim to do around the tub - hard stuff to nail but it sure looks good stained and varnished.

I always pre-drill nail holes in oak. A cordless drill with a bit slightly smaller than your finish nails will make quick work of oak trim.

I've split some really nice (and expensive) oak trying to punch a nail through.

Terry -  Thanks for the confirmation of my choice of techniques!

Still have to do the trim, but yesterday and today I build, trimmed (made my own molding with the router in a yard-sale router table) the two 12" shelves and soffit.  Primed them all.  Paint the shelves tomorrow and perhaps get back to the oak trim around the tub.

The more I work with oak the more I respect it as a material for cannons and mortars.  I wish I had a shaper to do molding antd trim - it's a bit much for the router in a small table.

This is an excuse to go to estate sales.

My Dad, a carpenter since late 1930's, told me to put nails into oak you should grind the pointy part off so they are flat rather than pointy. That way they will punch their way in rather than split the wood. That makes sense seeing as how traditional "horsehoe" nails used to put down hardwood flooring has a flat nose rather than a pointy one.

That makes sense, as the cut fibers hold the nails from being pulled.

The house was made about 1912.  I did find a number of 'cut' nails used in the one or two feet of flooring I had to change out.  That also would be a key in not having the flooring squeek.  Smart folks these old-timers!

for nailing oak i use either a Pin gun or a Micro Pin gun, have no problem with oak from 1/4" to 1 1/4" thick. rarely use trim thicker than that, but have nail guns too. I know what i'm talking about, i build custom Chancel furniture- you know, the fancy furniture on the stage in a church. have pieces in just about every state in this country and a few foriegn countries too! Tim, sometime when you come by, i'll take you to the shop and let you play with the big shapers...........

Wow an Idea for next years calendar---cannnon drawings

I can see the colage now - 50 different drawings of cannons/mortars WE'VE MADE!  The monthly pix could be a blueprint with the photo of the cannon/mortar inset in the corner!

There are several of us that can do CAD work and there are certainly some pictures of some ORIGINAL blueprints that will show up.

Perhaps we should start a repository for blueprints that are non-copywrited and a section therein for "calendar quality" prints.

I think you should investigate whether redraws of others' drawings (different scale, more dimensions, etc., so they aren't exact copies) violate copyrights.  Most non-original drawings are more or less copies of previous drawings.
