Horton Explorer XL vs Explorer HD vs Summit HD
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:41:21 PM »
Hey guys im checking out a horton explorer xl from walmart. The horton from cabelas and bass pro is the horton HD. What is the difference between the two? Is the XL an older model? Dont mind too much because it is less money than what cabelas and bp is asking for theirs. I think the difference is in the trigger as the XL has regular trigger and the HD has the fancier/ smoother Talon Trigger. Would appreciate any inputs.
Also, would it be better to get the summit hd with the talon trigger which is what i think might have been the other model they had or the Explorer xl without the talon trigger? I guess the explorer not looking at triggers is a model up from the summit.

I would go with what model has the best trigger as that means better accuracy. That is one reason Excalibers are so darn accurate as they have one of the best triggers on the market.  I do have to say that I do not know the model but my brother has one he bought from Sportsmans Warehouse and it was the 299 dollar  package crossbow and it shoots well and the trigger is not bad on it.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

OK i went on Hortons site. It appears all the 150 lb. and below use 2 limb bolts and the regular trigger. All the 175 lb. use one limb bolt. Most likely use the new Talon trigger. Some of the 150's can be had with the Talon trigger just have to read and make sure. Either CB only or in pkg.
