Assuming shot selection is good, what is your opinion of the following set-up for Elk?
250 grain Hornady XTP - 1200 fps - 50 yard shot
thanks,
Randy

First off, get rid of the XTP and go with a 300 grain hard cast bullet in either LBT or Keith form.
Load this bullet to between 1,000 to 1,200 fps and you should have no problem taking an elk if you do your part.

Yeah I'd have to agree with Hitman I'd loose that 250 XTP for elk. Would do fine on deer but on elk I'd go with a hard cast for sure and not less than 270-300 grains.

I agree 100% with MS Hitman and Graybeard. I would never consider a XTP for anything other than a deer bullet.
