Silent hammer?

Ok, this may sound like a foolish question, but can the hammer be cocked silently on an encore?
The reason I ask, is that with the old lever guns, you can pull the trigger, then pull back the hammer, then let off trigger to catch hammer, so there is no noise.
I now have a BLR, and no matter what you try, the hammer makes a "Clang" that can be heard far and wide.
would like to get an encore, but I need the ability to cock the hammer silently.
Will the encore allow that?

Don,t have an encore but I tried that with my Contender and it worked. Since the Encore is an overgrown Contender it might work on it as well.

this isn't what you were asking, but i had a couple of old belgium blr's and if you pull the hammer about halfway back before pulling the trigger, you're able to cock it silently.  i hope i explained this correctly; it's been a few years since i've handled a blr.

I have a 12 ga. shotgun barrel on my Encore that I use for turkey hunting. I find the hammer quiet when I pull it back. But, if I were you I would go to the nearest T\C dealer, ask 'em to see an Encore and give it a try and see what you think.

Don,t have an encore but I tried that with my Contender and it worked. Since the Encore is an overgrown Contender it might work on it as well.

This doesn't work on the older Contenders! Pulling the trigger means you have to open the action to allow the hammer to be cocked again.

Never been a problem for me - but TC "fixed" that feature in the new G2 & Encore actions.

it depends on how good your fingers are     you have to start the hammer back about half way  before the trigger will move back  but after you have the trigger held back , if you do your part  , there is hardy any click at all  ,
it does take a little practice but it can be done

How loud does a moth fart?  If your having this problem with just hammer cocking, you might want to buy a semi-auto....but the safety might be too loud(ahhh crap).

You are killin me man!!! LOL.....I think it depends on how big the moth is. (You know......Godzilla and Mothra....big loud windstorms)....And it's true about the Walker's Game Ear's....a heard of deer raided the factory and swiped a truckload. Yeah....it happened!!!

I believe I am hooked.
I know that my question seemed trivial, but I am trying to come up with the "Perfect" combo.
I now use a browning BLR, and the hammer on that is LOUD, had a deer at 60 yards spin and loom at me this year when I pulled the hammer back.
So far, my plan is to build and encore prohunter, with the 308 barrel bobbed to 16.25"
I am getting lazier as the years go by, and find I rarely go to the places that present long shots anymore, and am more worried about each ounce.

Funny thing that "age\weight ratio. As you get older you actually do appreciate a gun that is a pound lighter than the one you use to carry. And today, with recoil pads of "high tech", lighter guns are even easier on the shoulder when shootin heavy loads.

My son and I went turkey hunting this past weekend. He took my 11-87 12 ga. It's a fine shotgun. I took my Encore with my new 12 ga. smoothbore and full choke. I had the flex-tech stock and forarm. Now, he had the three shot semi-auto and I had the single shot......but my gun weighed much less,...and believe me, I was more than happy to make that trade off.

I have 3 Encores and they are all the same!  Absolutely silent!
If you pull the hammer "most" of the way back, then pull the trigger and when the hammer gets "all the way" back, let go of the trigger and ease the hammer forward!

Not a trivial question at all but a valid concern. Those big ears are not ornamental, they work. This past season I had a buck spin and stare at the sound of the safety on my M-70 Winchester and I had always thought that was pretty quiet. They don't need electronic game ears, they are born with real game ears, batteries included!

C-Joe.....yeah...I hear ya on that one. It's the damnes't thing, you can study the set up, get down wind, have the best cover & camo, and then have that piece of metal "clink" that just doesn't belong out there, and those deer (or what ever your huntin) will pick it up in no time....and look right at ya! Man....I hate when that happens.

Ain't that the truth!
It has not cost me a deer, as I usually have them in the sights before I cock the hammer, but it has alerted them.
I really like to have the impact of the bullet be the first thing that seems out of place to the animal.
There is something about having them in close, relaxed, and no idea anything is up.

try bring a single action revolver to full cock when a deer is right in close , some times you have to just wait untill some things esle makes a noise to cover you , like having an airplane coming by or a train ect.

Or a deer running because he got the scent of you and then you pull the hammer back to realize that he was the one running. yeah its happened; then you have to put the hammer back.

Well, I may (hopefully) find out next week. I've decided to take my Marlin 45-70 with peep sights (Williams) or my Smith 629 (Scoped) on the first week of the Pa rifle season. I usually take a scoped 308, but the "spot" that I've chosen this year has only a 60 yard max range, so I don't need a 300 yard bullet. The 45-70 is a flat nose cast bullet that won't expand much. I shot a doe with one of these last year (405 grain Cast Performance) and they certainly do the job....without blowin up the animal like a hollow point.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leanin to the Marlin. Open sights....even peep sights, are good if the deer are "zoomin" by.
