Saw two does to night walking between tree's slowly.  I was using my dads 740 rem with a short stock.   Don't now why maybe to change my luck he always sees deer with that gun.  Well i fired 4 times when they stopped missed them all.  Deer stopped and watched will i fumbled to reload second magazine, hey stood in the open at 50 yd when I finally loaded the slowly walked into cover.  The worst insult is that the stock is short and in the excitement I scoped myself.   I put on some steri strips. back at it tomorrow with my own gun.  Hope you folks do better.

Got home wife laughed her butt off. as did son!!!

I had a damn fawn commit suicide and run into my Blazer broke the dang windshield drivers side and took my drivers side mirror off. >:( So now I have to get a new windshield and mirror which is powered so I expect that will cost some dough.  >:( >:( >:( Called the Sheriffs dept asked for a car kill tag Dispatcher said I could not shoot the deer ??? The deputy had to. He called me on my cell phone said to shoot the deer to put it out of its misery and he would leave a car kill tag at the local gas station for me when he got there later in the day. Loaded the deer on my reciever hitch cargo carrier and went to meet my friend who I said I would meet at a certain time and did not want to keep him waiting or wondering what happened to me. I saw 9 deer on the way and could have shot 4 of them. I passed as I did not want to be late. Of course this meant I did not have any chances later LOL Oh well this little deer will be the third in the freezer so I am not that panicy about shooting a deer for the freezer and I will hunt some over Thanksgiving and muzzle loader season and the doe season in Dec. Watched the PACK kick butt today and tomorrow will start looking for a mirror and getting the Windshield fixed

Hey, I just got back home from up north. Hunting went very well. I got a 7 pointer buck it was a nice size buck shot on opening day. I sat on my stand edge by thick of young poplars. I sitting for 2 hours saw a fisher and a few birds, finally the buck stepped out of thick poplars, walking and sniffing around looked so calmly I raised my Remington auto .308 and I scoped on buck shoulder fired 2 shots. The buck ran within 30 yards and drop dead. On Sunday I went to the same stand hopefully harvest antlerless, sitting for few hours finally,  here comes a doe but did not have a good shot, I let her go and watched her walking and fade away. That's my story.  Hopefully come back during thanksgiving with a good chance of snow up north.

My 12 year old daughter's first time out hunting. Sat in a 2-man ladder stand.  Alot of hand-me-down clothes, warm boots, and plenty of snacks and handwarmers.  Cold and windy, especially Sat. She held out very well.  We didn't see anything all day Saturday and nothing until about 2pm Sunday.  She was determined and stayed pretty positive
Hailey spotted the deer working thru the brush one way away from us, then back again.  It presented a quartering away shot at about 80 yards.  Off hand shot right thru the liver and the lungs, exited out the opposite side just behind the shoulder (Savage Stevens .243 100gr Federal SP). It ran about 100 yards parallel in front of us but didn't slow down enough for another shot.
Needless to say we were pretty excited.  It ran behind a small knoll which was only about 75 yards from us but where we couldn't see it go down.  We waited a good 45 minutes and since it didn't come out we figured it was done. It was and the excitement started again. Praise God on a great finish to a great weekend hunting

Got my buck yesterday, he actually came to some "doe in heat" scent and a grunt call. Deep in the woods on public land, thankfully I had help from 2 friends to get this monster spike out and in my truck. I will carve another notch in my M1A. :D

I didn't get to go up until Thanksgiving morning, saw nothing until Sunday morning ten minutes after sun up. Nine pointer, nice sized deer about 160 but small rack. Unfortunately it started to run just as I squeezed the trigger on my marlin 30-30 lever gun and I shot clean through both of the back hips so I lost a lot of meat. Had to track it for about a 1/4 mile but it was bleeding pretty good and wasn't hard to find. It was still alive when I got there though and I had to put another round into him.

On an off topic side note, this was the smelliest deer I have ever field dressed in my life, and of course I took a deep breath of the steam when I opened the chest cavity. I had to walk away and get some fresh air, I almost lost it. I have never had this happen before, not that I'm an expert or anything but I didn't rupture the stomach, it just smelled really bad.
