carry comps

 Ok, I got a good deal on a Springfield Champion at a local pawn shop. I was wondering if anyone know who makes a single port compensator for these?

There is a barrel bushing compensator that replaces the stock barrel bushing and acts as a compensator. It's inexpensive, and easy to remove after you decide a muzzle brake is pretty much useless on a .45 Champion.

 ahhhh, sounds like my dad telling his then sixteen year old that he didn't need that 68 chevele with the 396 in it. I have seen those comps I was thinking that my wife can alos shoot same loads I do with out giving her flinchitis.....

  Didn't mean to sound condescending. What I should have said is that the comps work best with a high pressure round like the Super/9x23. The low pressure .45 doesn't create enough pressure to really make the comp effective. I have one for a fullsize 1911 that I tried for kicks. A friend that shot the gun thought it made a difference, recoil seemed about the same to me, but it did create a little more muzzle blast. Wouldn't cost much to give it a try. Does make a heck of a fireball with a stiff load of Blue Dot!!

I had an opportunity to talk to Rob Latham at the USPSA nationals one year(many years back), and he said he couldn't see any big difference in recoil from one comp to the next? They all seem to work.

I wonder if the compensator actually reduces the recoil through its venting design or if the weight of the thing actually helps dampen the recoil.  I've had a couple that I have installed on different 1911s and I can't tell the difference in recoil betwixt them.  Now, the noise is something else because it is directed differently than straight out the muzzle and since they didn't help reduce recoil much I removed them.  JMTCW.  Mikey.

Thank you all for your input. I figure a 200 gr swc with a lite load of bullseye will help more than another gadget that could break.

Mikey, I wonder too? I've shot Heinies Clarks Wilsons and many more, can't tell the difference either.
