Ultra red dot scopes?
« on: November 16, 2007, 07:27:16 AM »
Will battery life be longer if the user turns the rheostat down or will it last the same amount of time?

That is a hard one to answer for me, I play with my red-dot at different setting as needed. Most of the time I have the red-dot off and wait for the opportunity to shoot, then turn it on right before I shoot.. I have had batteries in my Ultra-dots for over two years now. But I think they would last longer if the rheostat was turned down.

Redhawk1, I do the same thing as you, as light conditions change. I've had the battery in mine for two years also but, don't want to take a chance of it going dead when that big buck steps out? Maybe eventually they'll come out with one with a battery level gauge on it, like cell phones and other electirical devices? I usually leave mine on all day while hunting?

S.B. I  keep a fresh battery with me in the field, like I said, I keep the red-dot off until I get ready to shoot. I find it is as easy as taking a safety off a rifle. I practice turning the red-dot on while at the range, so it is second nature for me to do this. Now if I as doing a spot and stalk, I leave the red-dot on. Another thing to consider is, colder temps affect battery life.

I try to wear my shoulder holster inside of my hunting jacket, to keep me and the pistol, warm.

Here in Delaware you would get arrested for a concealed weapon if you had your jacket over it.

It is not just Delaware, if you look in the law books, not the hunting reg's, you will see it is a criminal offense in most States to have a gun not visible, even during hunting.. Just some States require your gun has to be seen not covered up. You might want to check your local and State laws also. Just some friendly advice.

In Maine, hunters and trappers, engaged in that pastime, are allowed to carry their handguns under their jackets.
