Magazine extention on a G36???
« on: November 17, 2007, 10:50:43 AM »
I carry a G36 as my off duty gun.  Ive never had need for more than one mag but I carry a spare or two anyway.  Back in the "early days" I carried a G17 with a +2mag and two spares, but that was in the days of the hi-cap craze.  I never had a problem with the +2 floorplates then.

Now Im hearing bad stuff about the extended floorplates for the G36, nothing specific just some rumblings.  Is there anything I should be concerned about the extended mags for the G36?

Just failure to feed malfunctions. Or at least that was my experience with them. Removed the +1s and the problem went away.

Never got +2s for my G36 as I have had a few +2s come off of my 17/19s and spew rounds out.  It seemed to happen when it was hot out.  I decided it was not worth the extra two rounds.  The usual "stick with factory" when it comes to mags once again shows it's ugly face!  Just my 2 cents.  308

It usually depends on if they are factory +'s or not, and if they are newer models or not.

GLOCK upgraded the factory +'s a few years back. They didn't use to have the button on the bottom (for disassembly) and now they do, they are a good bit less likely to come off now.

As for aftermarket, well, you get what you pay for.

I have Pierce extensions on 6 magazines that I use for my G36 and 6 magazine extensions that I use for a G24c, and I have shot several thousand rounds through both pistols without any malfunctions.  The magazine plates have the nipple that secures through the base plate hole so that the extension won't slide off unexpectedly.  I like having the extra rounds that the extensions provide and the extra finger space that they provide for the G36.

I have never been a fan of mag extensions. In my mind it just goes against logic to take a compact pistol and make it into a fullsize grip.

Want to know something ironic? Something that may point to the culprit?

GLOCK does not make a factory extension for the G36. There are only aftermarket ones....
