New Combo...444 Marlin & 24" 270 Winchester Fluted Camo
« on: November 17, 2007, 01:17:52 PM »

Sheee's ::)

I really must be crazy...I went and did it...My wife said to go get it...She said since my 1 270 is going to become a 338 Elk rifle before next season..she figured what the heck...It won't hurt to hold onto for a little while.....she said the gun safe was too empty anyway...and I wouldn't be happy with out a few rifles...We'll see...I got 5 months before I have to go full time into training the pups...and 4 months of solid overtime to look forward too starting next week...so.....I won't have much time to play with it a-lot...I guess I'm just fool hardy...or a sucker for these little rifles... :-[.....Now...all I have to do is to loose the 444 barrel & get a BC 45-70 barrel to be trimmed down...so...I'm all set for any thing out west when I get to go......If the 270 works out...I'll keep it...if it don't...some one here will have a crack at it...I was told it is a Davidson Special...and there weren't that many produced as a 24" fluted 270 Winchester...

 ;D It's hard cleaning out the closet and harder keeping it that empty. Thats a great looking pair and the flutes look real nice from the pics.
I look forward to hearing how she does for you. Ya might end up liking that 444 though, seems they are real good shooters from all the reports I have read, and I know Tim really likes his.
Good shooting to ya buddy.

Mac,

How far ya going to trim the 45/70 down?  Are you going to scope it or new dovetail?  Just wondering.

I knew you could not stay away from these rifles for long. Even if you do not have time to shoot it, just knowing it is in the safe is comforting. ;D

I still had 1 left in the safe...and wasn't going to get rid of all of them...I just had to let the majority of them.. go to good homes where they would be used & cared for as I had done with them...so that I could get my Gordon Setters.....and I know they have...My last remaining Handi will be heading out to Oregunsmithing this week to become a 338 Wildcat chambering of something...so I will have a heavy flat shooting caliber for Elk this coming season or next...and I don't look for it back till late July or August Hopefully this combo I picked up should work out for the rest of what I was wanting..Also I still have a any-deer tag in my pocket and would like to fill it before the end of the 2nd gun season time permitting...I want a couple of Hams made with this one to arrive February or March...and if I do get back out for it...I will need more than my 45-70 can provide for a 300-500 yard shot that I most likely will have...as good as it is...wind is it's enemy...and where I might be at...it is always cold & windy on the second season...Getting the time is my problem...

Getting the time is my problem...
You're not the only one with that problem. Seems like a lot of people are having to work longer hours these days. I have been working 60+ hours a week for the past 3 or 4 years. It doesnt leave much time for loading and shooting.   :(
