WHATS YOUR PICK FOR A BATTLE RIFLE?
« on: November 18, 2007, 10:07:11 AM »
If you were going (back) to war or if it was coming here to you, what would you want to carry?  I started Army life with an M16A1 and ended with a M24, but I had an opportunity to carry a few other weapons of friends and foes.  If I got to choose today it wouldnt be a M16.  The new M14s look promising but I think Id want a G3 (HK91).  Heck even a decent SKS might be a better option than a .22...

What do you pick?

my SKS or No4MK2. I'd carry either with complete confidence.

Considering what I own or have owned:

1)  M1-A.  Powerful, available ammo.

2)  Ar-15 Flat Top.  Available ammo, interchangable sights.

3)  Mk4#2.  Powerful, reliable.  But limited ammunition availability.

Of course, I have a CZ527 Carbine in 7.62x39.  I would probably want to carry this one around due to it's caliber, size and weight, accuracy, and ammo availability.

Living where I live up here in Maine I would have to say I'll take my M1A  out here in the woods room clearing is not of the essence plus why take three shots with a 223 when 1 from a 308 is more then adequate and 308 is a hell of alot easier to put food on the table IE deer , bears etc.. then a 223.

I guess the M1A would be my pick, although the Fn Fal, HK 91, or the AR in 308 configuration wouldn't be bad either.

If I had to just go with what I've already got, my Bushmaster 6.8.  If I could just make up a gun (excluding laser guns from the future) I really don't know what I'd take.  I guess an AR in 6.8 or 308 with gas piston/non jamming design.  My M16A4 jammed on me during a test fire over sees after I had just gotten done cleaning it with dental picks and q-tips, so I'm pretty skeptical on how well that gun works in sand without oil being dumped into the chamber.

The tubes on a battle ship are 16 inch and rifled right?  I'd have M1 Abrams but they have a smooth bore.
Ok My AR15A2 or M700SPS

M1A with that spec ops stock (can't recall the name) and an optical sight up top.

Is this the stock you are thinking of?

http://ebrstocks.com/

I have one on my M1A that I bought and used overseas.  Made my M14 much easier to carry and the accuracy is phenomenal.  Weighs as much as a boat anchor though.

Springfield M1A Scout in Sage EBR Chassis. With good glass & Federal Gold Medal Match I'm getting consistent hits out to 600 meter's.

M1-A would be my first choice, but I don't have one, so I'd have to choose between an AR or AK. That would be a tough choice! Love the AR for it's accuracy and ergonomics, not to mention ammo availability. Still the AR would be better in the field where maintenance would be difficult.  Guess if I had to bug out with what I have, it'd have to be an AR.

M-14, M-1, SKS----That would be my pick with the winner being the m-14.

#4 MKII .303....first choice.
But the SKS I like, if I want a mid-range semi-auto.

If I had to pick one, either the M14 or FN-FAL.
If I had to use one of what I have, for a SHTF scenario or something, it'd be the Garand hands down.  I'm all stocked up on enbloc clips and ready to go.
I'd hole up at my brother's place with his AR-15 and supply everyone around me with 8mm mausers (k98 and m48's) and Mosins.  Plenty of ammo for all of them.
I hope, and pray, it never comes to that, and I know it probably never will, but, it's pretty cheap insurance just in case.

Very interesting subject.  I have no experience with the m14 or FN-FAL, but know how effective they are.  I'm not to keen on the AR-15's and didn't really like the M16, but I just know I'd enjoy an M14

I'd like a M1a. Reliable, powerful, and accurate way out there. I wouldn't feel undergunned with an AK either.

If I have to stick to what I already have, then my M1 Garand, standard or Tanker (I have both), but I'd have to consider my Mini-30 or my Mini-14, they all have advantages and disadvantages. What would be on the top of my wish list? An M1A or an M14. For what it is worth, I'm a combat vet, had an M16 and wouldn't have another.

308 H&K 91 slimline for-end ,1200 meter rear sight.
223 H&K 93 ,40 round mags .trouble with it is its twist ,its only good for 55gr.
so i would pick either my Robinson XCR with an Eotech 552  ,or my Bushmaster M4 with a CQT. both are 1x9 twist and can handle the heaver bullets.
Springfield M1A ,they are great rifles ,but i would only want one from when they were in Mass. I don't care for the ones coming out of ILL.

The CQT works great for daytime ,but the Eotech is better in low light.

For combat only - M4. Light weight, reliable and ammo is smaller than .308.
