TN Doe with a twist

Hey gang
Had a strange thing happen to me while hunting in TN last a few weeks back. I was hunting with my Omega (first time and I love it!). The hunting was very tough I think due to the drought. There were no Acorns and the food plots were dried up. I think that kept the deer out of the woods, they basically stayed in the brush all the time.

On the Fourth day I planned to take a doe if given the opportunity. Around 8:30 I noticed a small buck and three does about 100 yds away, but no shots were presented. A few minutes later they appeared from below a ridge again at about 45 yds. The buck was young so I decided to let him grow up for next year, but the Doe looked tasty. Settled the cross-hairs on her chest and filled the woods with smoke.

She ran about 30 yards, stopped and looked around as if to see what happened. If I didn't see the blood on her side I would have thought I missed. She took two steps and collapsed.

When i walked up to her I noticed something on her chest, it was a heavy wire (like a tomato cage or thicker). So i figured it was laying on top of her but when i tried to remove it i was surprised to see it was completely wrapped around her chest and tight enough to rub away some of her hair. It was so tight that the only way i could figure it go on her was when she was a fawn. Enjoy the picture.

That deer was in alot of pain from that wire I bet good job.

I think you did her a favor. Lots of strange things have been found on deer in the past, especially bucks. I have seen pictures of a buck that got a basketball stuck inside his rack. A fawn that had a plastic pumpkin (Trick or Treat pail) with a handle stuck on his head was on the local news a year or two ago. They ended up darting him to remove it so it could see, eat and drink again. Seen a picture of a buck that had barbed wire all wrapped up in his rack, and another with coaxial cable wrapped in his rack.

My own experiences have been with broadheads lodged in the deer somewhere. The one that really surprised me was when I found a stone head lashed to about 5" of wood shaft between the ribs and lungs of a deer I shot during the muzzleloader season 4 years ago. But we all know how those got there.

Who would have thought you would need a set of wire cutters in your field dressing kit?

Yea, it sure was a strange experience working my way around that wire while field dressing her.

Any idea what it was from?  Was it a continuous loop, tangled together, or neatly tied in some way?  Very strange indeed....

It was a continuous loop. The guage was fairly thick and two points looked like they have a weld points. The wire was very old. I was seriously wondering if it was the top ring of a tomato cage and she broke the bottom section off. Yea, we pondered this one quite a while at my Dad's cabin.
