I have a 17 Heebee barrel for my Encore. Heavy Barrel from Bulberry. I've got my cases all formed and am just beginning to work up loads. Have shot some small groups already. I've reloaded for years and was interested in forming cases, and I picked the Heebee. Your best source for information is the woodchuck den (http://www.woodchuckden.com/).   Order the Sensational Seventeen Manual - it has information on a bunch of 17 wildcats. There's a couple of other sites that will have info as well - just search. The Heebee seems to be one of the more balanced 17 wildcats.

I've also got to warn you, going to seventeen can get expensive. Besides all the dies, cases, bullets, I needed all kinds of new stuff - cleaning rod, powder funnel, case trimmer, because most stuff was made for 22 cal and up.

Buts it's a fun round to shoot.

I HAVE ALL THE CLEANING STUFF FOR MY 17HMR.  I AM THINKING OF HAVING A COOPER MADE IN THIS CALIBER.  MY FRIEND HAS ONE AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IT OFF OF HIM FOR YEARS.  NOW I NEED TO GET ONE FOR MY SELF.

Ok you can stop yelling at us now!!!!!!!!!!! A few years ago when I first started out on the net I also wrote everything in caps. I had a bunch of people then tell me it was rude and anytime you type in caps you were screaming. I just wanted to bring this up because you may not be aware of what you are doing as I did not at the time. After a few years on the net I do realize it is kind of like yelling. It is also harder to read. Please just turn the caps off. Dale

The 17 Hee Bee is a real neat round, for that matter so is the 218 Bee! I believe the rim gives the case a bit more strength allowing pressures to be run up higher than the lower pressures of the 218 Bee in modern strong actions such as a higher #1.

The only down fall of the Hee Bee IMO is the neck is shorter than I care for... I actually have a 17 Jet and feel the same way about it too...

A better choice for me personally is a 17 & 20 Killer Bee designed by Dan C who hangs out on saubier.com. I have both of these on a CZ 527 and both perform really well, the case has a really neat look to it and best of all it has longer range capabilities with lower barrel temps making for a great PD round....

I also shoot the 218 Bee with a good crimp from a LFCD and lilgun powder using a 40 gr V-max at 222-223 velocities with a lot less powder... Gotta luv that lil case!
