Model 97 44 Special has arrived
« on: November 21, 2007, 01:47:13 AM »
I finally picked up a Model 97 in 44 Special. My favorite dealer had it in stock with 7.5" bbl and flutes. Nice...

Been messing around with the 200 XTP just to get my feet wet. Man, this Special is a real sweetheart. Will make a for a nice winter of painless shooting (hands get freezing at the outdoor range over here).

Thanks again for all the help with bullet sizing. I ordered some 250 gr GC LBTs and a batch of 429244GC all sized to .429. Will give them a shot first then experiment with others. Thinking of getting them chugging along around 950 fps or so. Found a good bit of data out there for just such a load.

Hat's off to you, Freedom Arms. Wonderful work you folks do over there.

Now restarts the savings for the next one. Maybe a 4.25" 44 Special...this week anyway... :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

sounds good! I'm also looking at a FA 97 in 44 sp. It doesn't have flutes but has a jeweled trigger and hammer and a trigger job for $1499. I was originally looking for a 41 or 32 mag. with a 5 1/2" barrel but the 44 seems more versatile not to mention such a good price with those options.Im just not sure about the 7 1/2" barrel, should be great for target shooting but could also be chopped later on.

Can you post some pictures?

Congrats. Pics would be nice.
I've been wanting a 97 in 44 Special with something in the 4" to 5.5" range.

I really like the 44 special I have bought two 44mag guns the last year and all I shot in them is 44sp ammo now. A good 250gr to 260gr hard cast 44 sp load at 900 to 1100 FPS will kill anything walking in these parts at handgun hunting ranges. Plus it's much milder to shoot than a full 44mag load.
