Just a simple 22 Hornet to 22 K-Hornet here.

Plans to make a 218 Bee

Thinking about or would like to make a 7-30 Waters, 20 Killer Bee, 17 Jet and sure would like to make a Rimmed 257 Roberts but looking at high dollar custom stuff on some of it.

stimpylu32, that .577/.450 Martini ought to be a real number in a handi, I think it has more case capacity than a 45/70. That is a really intresting conversion. Who could do such work?

I was thinking about converting a 500 S&W to 50 Alaskan, but a 577/450 that is just cool. To bad brass is sooo expensive for that caliber.

I would also like to convert a 30/30 to 30/40 Krag or 303 British.

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for long forgotten/odd ball calibers and their inherintly expensive brass.

GE

Just about any good smith can do the 577-450 with the proper tools , it will be a BP only gun for me shooting .458 cast bullets , got lucky about a month ago and got 20 pcs of brass for just under $3.00 each .  :o

Don't know if i'd do a 50A as the 500 S&W is pushing the Handi design as of now but the new ones that are going to be coming out as Mags may work with a re-bore / re- chamber .

The Krag is another one that i'm looking at for the 30/30 , i kinda like the old & odd myself .  ;D

I've had several done by Wayne York of Oregunsmithing...

.338-06 A-Square from a 25-06

.280 Improved

.405 Winchester from a 38-55 Target

35 Remington from a 357Mag/Max

45-120-3¼" Sharps Straight from a 45-70 Buffalo Classic

Wayne has a frame and 300WSM barrel stub along with a Shilen 6.5mm barrel for chambering to 6.5x55 Swede, he'll be welding the underlug from the barrel stub to the blank.

I have a 280 Barrel that I'm still contemplating on what to do with, thinking maybe a .375-06. ;)

Tim, what's the ballpark price on a rebore/rechamber? There's a couple I'd like to get done while I still have a job to pay for it.

About $250-$350, depending on ejector/extractor work and if a complete rechamber is done.

I rechambered my .30-30 barrel to .30-40 Krag..it's now definitley a "super" .30-30 that loves to sling 180 grain to 200 grain bullets all day.

Tackleberry: I am a 30-40 buff ( load for and shoot a Krag sporting rifle) and am thinking of ordering a 30-30 barrel to rechamber to
30-40. What kind if performance are you getting from the 22 inch barrel? What kind of loads are you using. Are there any hidden surprises when rechambering?

SSK is a GBO sponsor, so you can't go wrong there. ;) I tried to get Wayne to become a sponsor, maybe next year.

223 24" to 257 Roberts 1-10" twist prior to reboring I made the barrel octagon

223 24" to 6x47 with a 1-12" twist octagon same as above.

I also have a 243 26" Ruger #1 barrel that I will shape octagon, rebore to
6.5 1-8.5" twist and chamber to 6.5x 284. A nice gentle deer moose or elk rifle.

A 243 barrel can also be rebored to 25 cal and made into a 25 Souper or a 257AI chamber stays the same only the neck and throat needs opening up. These are two extreamly fine cartridges.

U-R kill'n me with these oct barrels! I'd luv to have that 257 Roberts but I would have to rim it... I have a bunch of brass made up for it and plan to do one on a Ruger #1 unless i ever figure out how to get one done on my NEF... I do know anything about re-boring a bore but it must work, I see ya have a couple! thanks for throwing a lil fuel on the fire.... I really don't need that right now!!! LOL

I have only done 1, 357 mag to 357 Maximum...but I am interested in a .577 X 2 inch or .577 X 2.5 inch black powder round, what barrel would I have to have to have for this one to be done, and who could do it?
Quick, In one of the above posts you mentioned the 375/06, I recommend you go with the 375 Whelen Ackley Improved 375/06  or the 375 Hawk round rather than a plain 375/06. I had my 375 Whelen Ackley Improved done on a Ruger M77 MK II right before the 375 Hawk came out and had I known about the 375 Hawk or the 411 hawk, the Ruger would be probably been a 411 Hawk...Jim

Hey Quick, the 405 sounds like some thing I would be intrested in. Did you have Wayne York build that for you? If so how do I get a hold of this guy? Oh and how is recoil with that little beasty.

Ummm, I posted a link to Wayne's website with my first reply. ::) :D Recoil is noticeable, it pushes a 300gr bullet to a little over 2400fps MV with a case full of Benchmark. ;)

I have only had one done so far by Wayne York also.

.223 24" bull to .220 Swift.

It shoots like a house on fire, I am still thinking about the .243 ultra fluted to a 6mm-.284, I really like that round.

I have no5t really experimented much so far with the .30-40 (from a .30-30) 22" barrel. I know that loads i Have that are 1`80 grain round nose that i worked up for my Krag shoot fine and accurately in the Handi, but I think I can get a bit more juice outta these without adding so much recoil to make it unpleasant. Right now, its a very pleasant little rifle to shoot with much more power than a .30-30..I'll keep everyone informed.
