This has gone no where anyway so theres no point in dragging this out any longer. Whenever someone asks for opinions, its always the same 'ol boo hoo dont talk about my choice of rifle like that or else i'll cry. lol.
I bought my first lyman rifle so i now have a new ball game and cant wait to see how it turns out.

I believe that. Any idiot can blow up a gun. With the Spanish stuff even smart guys can blow one up. The stuff about the NEF you just made up.

You think the knight wolverine is the best inline out there. Thats your opinion and your right to express that opinion. Everything in life has its goods and bads. Just because one person said something about the rifle doing something never talked about, doesnt mean it isnt true.

I think a ford pinto the safest and most reliable car on the road..... Now thats a good juicy made up story

I know his feelings, I have went through plenty of his posts today to get to the bottom of this. He thinks the NEF has "horrendous" blowback in one post, NEVER would recommend one in another, but not once did I read anything about any blowback eroding the frame as you stated. I think you better take a good look at what you type in the future, unless you are prepared to back it up with proof. Any breech plug that has 650 shots through it should be replaced, as they have been designed to be. When and if that BPI plug ever gets 650 shots through it, then we will be able to compare it. How many times did he change the carrier??? NEF says 20 shots, I have one with over 60 shots that could probably be used for at least that many more. Sure the blowback is bad by then, but I wanted to see if I could destroy one.They will have considerable more blowback when you go past the recommended amount of 20 shots.

Despite the "debate", I've enjoyed the replies from everyone.

I may to wait until I get moved to Colorado to purchase a muzzleloader. The NEF Sidekick appears to be a good "work horse" of a muzzleloader and very affordable too.

I need to read the Colorado regulations that I brought home, to see if conicals are all that's allowed and if so I may have to consider a T/C Hawken or a Lyman Great Plains Rifle.

I used to own a T/C Hawken that I installed a handgun scope on and shot a 250gr. R.E.A.L. bullet with 90 grains of Pyrodex powder (this was back in the day when Pyrodex was new on the market) and could get 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards.

No scopes, No pellet powder, No sabots. Must fire a single projectile weighing a minimum of 170 grains. Conical can not be longer than 1" in lenth. <-- How they came up with that.....

The rules are pretty easy to follow and doesnt hurt your chance of getting game.

My great plains rifle should be in by late next week. I bought a kit , so it'll take a couple weeks to build it and then i'll get to break it in. .54cal flintlock's are a load of fun.

You better pick up one of these .50's fast because they will not last at this price! If i wouldnt have bought the lyman, I would have bought one of this guys 45. and 50 caliber hawkens.

Keep in mind that the tc hawken runs $500 new.

The first hawken is a Kit, It has a K in the serial #.

You're absolutely correct, about the regulations for Colorado's muzzleloading season. I just finished reading the regulations, that I brought home from my recent vacation in Parker. Love that state and plan to move there in the spring or sooner, if possible. Sooner would be better, so that I can meet the 6 month requirement to be a resident...before the hunting seasons begin.

If you don't mind saying, what did you pay for your Lyman kit and where did you get it? If I'm going to get into this type of rifle, I'd like to give the Lyman Great Plains Hunter a try. I prefer the 1:32 better than the 1:48 of the T/C Hawken.

Midsouth Shooters Supply has the GPR kits for $281.70. I don't think the GPR Hunter comes in kit form.

I bought mine off a traditional muzzleloading forum for $300 shipped. Mid south as stated, sells them from 280+ for the percussion, up to $301 for the flintlock kit. The kit would be the best way to go. The prebuilts and chitty bluing and people complain about them often rusting. I cant find the GPH with the faster twist in kit form, but i do think you would be able to buy that by its self for close to $100 and then just swap the barrels out. Thats what my plans are. Next is a .54 percussion barrel and of course a percussion lock.

What people are those? I've done a lot of research on GP's and this is the first I've heard of poor bluing. Have seen a few posts about people removing the bluing to brown the barrel out of preference for a brown barrel.

traditional forum. Ever handled the lyman in person? They do a real crappy job on the bluing which is prone to rusting. Stocks that come on them are also dry and need more oil applied. Its just a whole lot easier to do the kit and do it right.

I have and it looked fine. If it rust then you have a browned gun which is fine. Few people can assemble and finish a kit correctly and the resale of a kit built gun is far less than a factory assembled gun.

Semi, My comments were directly pointed at the finish on the GPR from the factory. They do a very poor bluing job on them that easily attracts rust. The other rifles such as the mustang and the trade rifle, both have good bluing jobs. I think lyman throws on a crummy bluing job on the GPR to give it an "old" look. I prefer the term "Used often" For the price you have to pay for a factory built GPR, they could add a better finish. Ive only built a couple kits, refinished a few rifles/pistols, so thats one reason i prefer the kit, Do it the right way once and be done with it.
Mine should be in next week. It will make a nice winter project on a hot winter day. We're still in the high 60s-low 70's $:-\$

Although we are supposted to have 80mph wind today. Great.

Forgive me........ My choice would be a TC Hawkens with a 1/66 prb barrel and then order a GM dropin barrel in 1/32 one gun problems solved I picked up a nice TC Hawkens at gunbroker cheap check it out . Nim
