Scope for truck gun...
« on: November 23, 2007, 10:39:03 AM »

     I'm looking to build as compact a truck gun as I can. I will start with my NEF versa-pack .22LR..then  want to put as compact a scope as I can on it.
  I noticed those little straight sided scopes that go onto AK47s and M16s . Some are listed as being 1"..

   Can I remove the specialized mount and use it in regular Weaver type rings ?

  See a couple examples below..

Don't know if you can remove the mount, but you may want to see if you can find a Simmons 22MAG 4x28 COMPACT. They are no longer produced but they can still be found new. They are very small and are great for what you are looking for.

IG,

I had a fixed 4x for a muzzleloader that was pretty small, bushnell or tasco.  I may still have it somewhere.  I put it on a truck gun at one time.

I'll see if I can find the dimensions on it for a reference.

Thanks guys;

   I do have an ideal scope for it..but it is already on another rifle. the one i speak about is a 3/4" tube Redfield that I bought back in the early 70s.
   It has a 3/4" tube with about 30mm on either end and only 9.25" long...but can't find 'em anymore..

Some guys have put the Simmons 2.5x20 shotgun scope on center fires.
It mounts in 1" rings.
Also has 5.5" eye relief so you can mount it low in front of the hammer.

 Yup Parts man;

   I have one of those, but it is on my 30-30 deer rifle..wish I had another ! I like the 5" eye relief so much that I tend to look for the longer eye relief.
  My NEF with the .308 barrel has an old Unertl 4X on it..that puts the scope back far enough that it tends to obstruct fast round exchange.
    I have an extractor barrel.

FWIW- I just bought a couple of these because they were priced right. I assumed they would be junk but was really surprised. They are neat little scopes, maybe perfect for a .22.  Now if they adjust o.k. and hold zero , I'll be all set.
