chair blinds
« on: November 24, 2007, 02:47:06 AM »
anybody have any experience with them?  easy to use?  warm?  durable?  any that you could bow hunt out of?  I like the idea of them being easier to hide in and not some big blob in the woods      thanks for your opinions/ recommendations

Bow hunt from one? No none that I've seen at least no room for the bow and you in them. Comfortable? Not to me. I absolutely HATE those type chairs to me at least they are the most uncomfortable thing I've ever tried to sit in. But some seem to like them. I do like the compact size idea in a way but I really can't sit for extended periods without standing to stretch and relieve myself. I'd not own one if offered for free but I suspect some folks who have different needs than me would like them. I think they'd work best for handgun hunters rather than bow or long gun hunters.

graybeard, I hear you although I thought the chairs themselves were fairly comfortable.  I had heard of one (can't remember the name brand) that advertised that a bow could be shot from it.  I was looking at them for the portability and I can't seem to get over deer not immediately spotting one of the pop-up blinds.  Lots of my hunting is for one day only and I don't have the luxury of leaving them up for extended time periods. thanks for your insight

Bought the two man for my wife since she blew out her knee and is unable to get in a treestand or walk very far. So far she has had numerous encounters but not with the buck she is looking for. With a little brushing in  the deer seemed oblivious to it.  And yes you can shoot a bow out of it. A piece of pipe insulation along the forward edge of the chair makes it set pretty well and a set of shooting stix steadys her Handi  .44 real  good.  She loves it.

I  have an ameristep ,weighs 12# . I try to place it under cedars  in the shade . i've had deer look at it then walk off, turkeys dont seem to pay any attention to it. Fox and coyote seem to look plenty long enough for a shot.    It would  be hard to shoot even the smallest of bows out of. It is made for medium to short length rifles and shotguns. Some say they are not comfortable. Now that I have this I have spent up to six hours in one spot  trail watching and even fell asleep a couple of times. They are a lot warmer than sitting on a rock.   .A can of sterno heat can make them very comfortable on a cold morning.
They are not for everybody, but nothing is.

I used one last year to harvest a small doe with encore 50 cal. ml pistol. the deer-7 of them-didn't even know I was there-field edge under a hanging limb with natural brush in front of me. didn't use it this year-land we hunt is too thick and we had to use treestands to see any distance. My only complaints in the comfort department is the front of the chair puts pressure on the back of my legs and then when I fall asleep my leg gets numb. hahahahaha

I got one for Christmas but haven't used it yet.  I think I will have to rig some sort of shooting rail for it.  Perhaps two pieces of square tubing to stick in the ground and another piece of tubing fixed to it would slip over the ends of the other two pieces.  I think I will need to put some pipe insulation over this last piece.  It would be in three pieces so it would carry easy.  I'm not much of an offhand shot.  I can see using it in some places where there are no trees.

I TOO HAVE TRIED THESE CHAIRBLINDS, MOSTLY FOR PORTABILITY AND AFFORDABILITY. I ALSO HAVE A DOUBLEBULL AND A LESS EXPENSIVE PRIMOS GROUNDMAX VISION HUB STYLE BLIND. MY BROTHER ALSO HAS A GROUNDMAX BLIND (HE SHOT A BUCK AND A DOE OUT OF IT THIS YEAR). I SET UP THE CHAIRBLIND IN THE DRIVEWAY AND TRIED TO SHOOT MY BOW. DID NOT WORK WORTH A DARN, AND SO I NEVER BOWHUNTED FROM IT. I FOUND THE CHAIRBLINDS TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE AND CLOSTROPHOBIC. THEY ARE A TIGHT FIT IF YOU HUNT WHERE IT GETS COLD AND YOU HAVE PACKBOOTS AND BULKY WARM CLOTHING. AND IF YOU SIT LONG HOURS OR WALK A LONG WAYS, NOT MUCH ROOM FOR GEAR. FURTHERMORE, WHILE YOU CAN SEE OUT OF THE BLIND TO YOUR LEFT AND RIGHT, GOOD LUCK TRYING TO SHOOT AN ANIMAL THAT WALKS THERE. THE DEER NEED TO BE RIGHT IN FRINT OF YOU. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE HUB STYLE. THEY ARE ROOMY, COMFORTABLE (SET UP ANY CHAIR YOU LIKE) KEEP YOU DRY AND CONTAIN SCENT PRETTY WELL. THEY MAY BE BIG BUT IF YOU SET THEM UP AMONGST DEADFALL, BUSHES. LOW HANGING BRANCHES ECT AND BRUSH THEM IN, THEY STAY HIDDEN PRETTY WELL. THEY ARE ALSO EASY TO GET IN AND OUT OF. I EVEN HANG A LITE IN MINE WHEN FOR WHEN IT IS DARK. ALMOST FORGOT, WHEN NATURE CALLS, TRY RELEIVING YOURSELF IN A CHAIRBLIND. IN THE HUB, YOU CAN GET UP, DO YOUR DUTY AND NEVER HAVE TO LEAVE THE BLIND. THOSE AWESOME LITTLE HEATERS WORK GREAT IN THEM AS WELL. I DID NOT USE THEM IN THE CHAIR BLIND - NOT ENOUGH ROOM. SHOOTING A BOW IS NO PROBLEM OUT OF THE HUBS AS WELL, PLENTY OF ROOM. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE LARGER BLINDS. THEY MAY BE MORE CUMBERSOME AND TIME CONSUMING BUT THEY ARE WELL WORTH THE EFFORT. IF YOU CANT BE COMFORTABLE AND QUIET AND SIT LONG HOURS, WHAT IS THE POINT ? GOOD LUCK. HOPE THIS HELPS. OH YEA, THE GUN REST IS A GOOD IDEA AS WELL. I MADE MINE FROM PVC AND HAVE IN ALL MY BLIND. SEE A DEER, PUT THE GUN UP, AIM, SHOOT AND IT'S BACKSTRAP FOR DINNER.
