been loading singe 1960, still use the same old powder feeder, (herters) it's always thrown within 1/10 or less of variance. Blew up a 45colt blackhawk about a month ago, couldn't figure it out, never had a problem. This was with 231 powder checked the rest of the loads and found 2 that were over loaded and 2 that were short of powder. I thought that I had screwed up, but how. ran some test loads about 15 of them all checked out. A few days later decided to load some .357's with 231, set up and did some test drops, everything seemed OK, then a short load, followed by a almost double load. What the H***, checked the powder feeder everything seemed OK, started taking it apart, found in the drop tube a ladybug. Apparently the bug would sometimes be turned sideways and allow a proper charge, and then would cause the next charge to stick; then let a double or excessive charge into the next case.
