Scope for CZ 550fs

I have a CZ 550 fs in 9.3x62m/m that currently has a leupold fixed 4x. This older scope allows
it to be moved further back since it has a longer tube from turret to objective. I do need the
scope further back, cut stock to overall length 13 1/2 and using warne rings. I was thinking of a
2 x 7, 1.5 x 5, but with lower power you see the iron sights. Question: those of you that have
a CZ 550, what scope do you have and did you remove your iron sights.

  Yup, got the SAME gun, and I even have the Warne rings!  I put on my rifle a 3-10x40mm Weaver Grand Slam.  Went to this high of a magnification since this is still an easy 300yds. rifle if you are shooting 250gr. Accubonds.  Nope, I never see the iron sights, and left them on since the Warne rings are the lever QD ones.  One word of warning...  As you know the CZ 550 has an very high bolt throw and it was hitting the magnification ring of my scope.  Took a dremel to the bolt, added some "gun black" and she works dandy.  Unless I point it out to you, you can't even see my handiwork.

My CZ 550 is a 416 Rigby, I have a Leupold 1.5X5X20mm on it. Yes I see the front sight in the scope on the low power, but it does not interfere with my shooting. If the sight bothers you, take it off.

I Use a Burris Scope On my CZ550 American Safari 458 Lott. I bought The one called The Safari  Model
 
 1 3/4 X 5  30mm Burris  you don't need a long range scope on a DG Rifle. Oh yes I did not remove my Iron Sights.

With the scopes you mention, if magnification is 4x or more do you feel that you
have to creep forward to the scope changing how you would normally shoot the rifle.
My length of pull is 13 1/2" and I need the rear of the scope to be 11 1/2" from
the butt. I do realize that lower magnification increases eye relief, but the rings on
the rifle don't allow newer scopes to come back that far.

Ahhh,

     The problem as I see it is that with the "fashion" for short actions and the loud vocalistations by the small minority who advocate such things, have convinced the scope makers that short tubes are best  . I like classic rifles and a lot of them have longer actions and hence wider spacing for the scope mounts which is one reason I like the Pecar Berlin scopes as they have long tube bodies. Unfortuneatly they are expensive new so I have to shop around for good used ones. The Schmidt & Bender scopes (I have a 6x42 one) also seem to have plenty of tube length ofr mountign and getting the position just right. Again they are expensive   as are Meopta another one with good tube length, I picked up a used 7x50A.

    Sorry to say but I cannot compare my American made scopes as three of them have straight front tubes being :-

Weaver K3W (steel)
Weaver K1.5 (steel)
Bushnell Scope Chief 3x ( appears to be a brass tube?)
  
    The two Leupolds are a M8 Compact 4X and a Vari X111 2.5-8X so both are shortish scopes. The VariX111 is fitted to my P-H 1200 Super in Leupold QR lever mounts. The rifle has a LOP of 13 3/4" and the eyepiece is 12 3/8" from the butt pad. This works fine for me and on 8X when I lift the rifle to my shoulder I get a full field of view. Of course the P-H 1200 uses a Mauser 98 action so it's fairly long but these mount work fine on this rifle.

1.5-4.5 Monarch, Nikon. Good value for the money.  Just works with the bolt.  May free up a little more room on the bolt.  Works fine the way it is.

Thanks guys,
good info, hopefully I will find the perfect scope that
will allow me to shoulder the rifle, have good field of view,
allow me to change magnification without moving my head
position having the right eye relief.

Even cranked to 10X, I keep my head positioned the same.  If eye relief is critical to you, may I suggest the new Nikon Monarch?  I do believe they advertise a CONSTANT 4" of eye relief throughout the magnification range.
