first of all I would like to make it perfectly clear my village is not missing an idiot I am right here.

Dale you stole the daisy red rider out of my line you quoted that isnt fair.

I am sure glad to see some people still have a sense of humor.  I mean come on. It was meant to prove a point with humor.  You could post a question asking about any caliber for any size game and some will say yes and some will say no. Shoot what you are comfortable with and confident with. It is like asking which truck is best. My personal preference is my 83 s10 4 wd long bed.

I personally hunt  with a 7-08 encore which from what I have read isnt adequate for elk.  Oops dont tell the elk I have taken with it. Lighten up guys life is too short to be so tightly wound.

Lets face it for whitetail deer a 22 long rifle will work , come on we all know its the poachers choice !
everything else is insurance for longer and off angle shots !
some are more willing than others to live with less insurance be it because of skill or stupidity !
We must now assume that somewhere today someone is hunting deer with a gravel shooter and marbles !
the big ? is did he use solid or cats eyes ? reg. size or shooters
THE DEBATE WILL NEVER END !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

 ;D  ;)  ;D
I think you would really want a hollow point for the low velocitys or maybe a ballistic tip to give you another 3 or 4 feet range.
Here in OK .223 would be leagle as long as it was 55g or more.

The funny thing is I actualy thought about taking a sling shot with me durring muzzle loader this year.
I was going to use it for the squirels that didn't want to share there tree with me.
I guess next year I'll leave the hawken at home.

Do you think it would qualify as a front loader? :-[

When it comes down to it, projectiles are for wussies. A real man would go after deer with the plastic toothpick from his swiss army knife. When you are as great as me you just berate the deer til they die of shame and embarrassment. Definitely not for novices.

I would head down to TX and whack the crap out of a penned Audad sheep in order to test the effectiveness of this outstanding hunting device,it has been used for eons and with the advancements in metallurgy and modern elastics i think you should be able to take big game out to 150 yards.

Claymore mines are great for deer, a little meat loss but nothing to worry about.  They aren't exactly legal but after I blew the game warden's legs off he doesn't chase me any more. I may have to try the slingshot, what caliber projectile do you guys advocate? I tried one in .243 but I was told it wasn't good enough. My mate David reckons that 50 caliber rocks are the best ammo he's tried.

the wife dragged me shopping at the mall , we ended up in front of Victories Secret , and among other ideas that flashed thru my head , i noticed this cute little under garment for ladies and theclerk showing it off  and this idea hit me like a ton of bricks , no it was the wife's elbow !
so when asked why i was staring at the clerk wearing little more than a bra and see thru. shirt i had to think fast !
this will make ya'll proud - i said we ( guys on GB ) had been posting our ideas on sling shots !
AND I JUST FIGURED OUT HOW TO MAKE A DOUBLE BARRELED SLING SHOT !
so may i suggest all go to VS and check out the DB sling shots ! i suggest staying with a subdued color for hunting but the sky is the limit for competition !

The sling, as used in battle and hunting medium and small sized game, consists of 2 lengths of cord with a pouch in the center.  It is not the slingshot of today.  A projectile about the size of a golf ball is placed in the pouch.  The sling is then swung and one of the cords is released, causing the projectile to be released.  With practice, one can become very proficient.  We played around a lot with slings as kids and became fair shots with them.  It is possible to use larger projectiles in the softball range, but they must be lobbed toward the target rather than shot directly.

If you're going to use a water ballon. then I suggest a high powered super soaker for back up. You never know when you could face a charge.

I am thinking with glass marbles rather than plain old rocks, it would be more than adequate. Of course the rubber not an old tire tube.  Just MHO

This is just plain silly!  EVERYONE knows when using a slingshot for deer to elk sized game, one must use a 3/8" ball bearing.  Most people forget about the friction associated with the leather pouch.  To combat this, I now only shoot Moly coated ball bearings when distances are going to be 100+ yards.  According to my chronograph, the Moly adds an honest .00002% velocity increase.  More than enough to double-lung elk sized game out to 200yds.

funny but quite awhile ago I was interested in hunting small game with a slingshot and came across a web site where the guy ( I think he was an ex navy seal / survivor guy) actually had killed a deer with his slingshot using .45 cal. lead conical bullets as ammo.  He claimed they could easily kill up to coyotes with this type of ammo.  I thought this was probably stretching things a little but decided that if someone pointed one at me then maybe I should run!  Almost forgot, he shot it in the neck at close range

A lot of deer were killed with sharp sticks and pitfalls too. Stunts are stunts and any projectile can kill if you are un/lucky. I try to avoid getting hit with anything worse than a snowball.

I don't know if they even make them anymore but at one time they made some slingshots that were anything but a kid's toy.  I would imagine that with a marble sized steel ball bearing one of those could do some serious damage to a person or a deer if the right spot was hit.

Here it is: Ron  http://www.oddwing.com/op4_002.htm     http://www.oddwing.com/op4_013.htm

What a bunch of BS! That arrow makes it a primitive weapon. As for the sling shots someone erroneously calls kids toys, wrong! Ultra lights for back packing!

personally i just jump out of my treestand and ride them back to camp before smashing them in the head with a rock. i find riding them first serves 2 purposes, first it saves on drag time, second i like lean venison, and there is no better way to cut down on the fat than a little workout right before the coup de grace. however, that being said i would suggest loading your slingshot with ping pong balls filled with a bit of nitroglycerin, just to add to the knockdown power and insure a good blood trail.
