Change in POI with BM locking base pin
« on: November 25, 2007, 03:37:10 PM »
Greetings,

I installed a locking Belt Mountain Keith style base pin on my SS 7.5" SBH this past spring. I checked my zero for the VA. deer opener, and found my 320 grain LBT LWN GC bullets impacting 5 inches higher at 50 yards. A quick scope adjustment and I was good. Has anyone else experienced that much change in POI from the locking pins?  It has me wondering if I may change POI every time I remove the pin, and re-tighten.

Thanks,

It was your scope that was doing the mischief in this case.
You can easily confirm this by putting the original pin back in then trying it. If you start getting patterns instead of groups when you do this, take the scope off and use the iron sights.
The BM pins can sometimes be tight and require polishing...did you jar the gun or the scope during the installation?

My POI did not change at all with my BM base pin install. I have a red dot site on Ruger SBH Hunter .

After the season is over I will alternate both pins for some group shooting and comparison. My 2x Leupold LER has been the most reliable and consistent scope I have ever had mounted on a gun of any type. Thanks for the replies.

after i installed the belt mountain ,the accuracy seemed to improve. in fact that why i used this revolver as opposed to the srh 44 mag or the gp100 6".
