That's one issue, depends on which sight you get, they don't put the same sight on all the time, the .494" will work for moderate long range, but the .404" is ideal. If you get the .494", you can live with it, but if you get the .584", you're gonna be unhappy. Bernie uses the .404" to 800yds with the Smith sight, I don't have anywhere to shoot past 300yds, so I can't offer any long range advice.
The other issue you may have to deal with is the slider that comes on the sight may not be a peep, depends on where you got it and when it was sold if used. Brownell's shows it as a peep slider, just like Buffalo Arms did until I called em on it, they now show it as a notch slider, which is worthless to old eyes as a long range sight.
